    Mission Gone Wrong [Closed] Header%203_zpszxwrwqpx

    Early April

A little over two months passed since things got a little rocky and romantic between two people of the Saionji Manor. There was J. Saionji, the head of the Family and Captain of the Sixth Division. He was a man of honor and of duty. He was extremely strict and very stoic. It was hard to tell what this man was thinking. The only persona who understood him a bit clearer was his younger brother Kazuo. The other person was Maaya Ishino, a beautiful young woman that had entered J.'s life. Through certain circumstances, J. found himself becoming rather fond of this woman's company. Over the time she has been here, he's hired a personal trainer to help aid her in re-entering the Gotei Thirteen. He's done what he can to make sure she enjoyed her time at the Saionji Manor, like a gentleman should do. The only thing he has still not been able to do is understand the story behind Maaya's blush.

    J. woke up every morning with her next to him and had become accustom to having her there. Though he never thought of it, he probably wouldn't like waking up and her not being there. And on this afternoon, J. came to realize that she was going to be gone for a while. A week prior, Maaya had been officially reinstated as a member of the Gotei Thirteen. She was not seated with her current power level, but was immediately named his official secretary. Though it was not originally a position, J. had secretly tossed that note into Maaya's application and file. He did this because she was worried about not being allowed to do it anymore. And now, she was to be given her first mission. Luckily, she was not going to be leaving the Soul Society. Instead, her mission was a little ways out of the Rukongai. She would be in charge of a certain area, keeping intruding hollows at bay. An easy mission to start.

As the time came for Maaya to head out, J. decided to meet her at the main gate she'd be heading through. When he first arrived, a couple lower level female Shinigami decided it was alright to toss starry eyes toward him. An intense and threatening glare stopped that. He was not in the mood. In fact, he was worried. Maaya would be out of his sight and, unless something had changed, she would be going there alone. This time apart would give him time to finish a few things in regards to the Ishino, but he was worried about Maaya's safety. Something about this felt off, but he shrugged it off. He needed to have faith in Maaya's ability. If he couldn't do that, then he would fail her for sure. As Maaya arrived and was ready to go, J. approached her and slid a finger down her nose and lightly tapped the end. "You'll do fine." he said seriously and then his eyes softened, "Good luck, Maaya."

It had been one week since Maaya had signed the second most important set of paperwork she'd probably ever have to. Being part of the Gotei 13 was an honor she loved. Although all-black wasn't exactly her thing, it was a-okay for now. Maaya had been helping J out as a secretary since that week. She was allowed into the "6th Division Only" sections now, and she felt a little pride i nthat. Only one more section she didn't have entrance into.

Maaya kept her Zanpakutō near her more and more. There were even times she'd take it with her while she showered. Not in the shower, of course, but nearby. Maaya slipped on her sandals as she exited. She had taken a bit of time to keep her wits about her. Seeing J standing at the gate, looking at her made her tense up and hurry up to him. "A-ah, my Lord... I'm sorry if I made you wait."

She winced as he tapped her nose. She liked that. It was... something she got from him. It was kinda cute too, but that would never escape her lips. She smiled. "Thanks to your training, I will, my Lord." Maaya bowed at him, and then left the manor grounds. She practically had a skip in her step.

That was until three hours later. Maaya's denreishinki—a device used to locate hollows—buzzed and howled. Maaya had never heard one go off. If she had, she would have known that the noise wasn't normal. She looked to it, and noticed there was a hollow approaching from the edge of the forest. Maaya swallowed. From what her denreishinki said, it was low enough level that Maaya would be okay. She didn't have any backup. She'd have to go in solo.

And maybe... she'll get to make J proud. That made her speed increase. She got to the Hollow and immediately regretted letting pride get a hold of her. The thing was not what her denreishinki said. It was about twice the size. It had four arms and a sword-like beak as a mask. It stood on two stumpy legs with a long tail behind it. It also stood about ten feet tall. But the worst part about it... were its claws. Each hand had nine digits, each of which were claws that seemed to be as long as Maaya was tall.

It let out a howl and charged. Maaya drew her Zanpakutō and parried the first blow. Then the second came in, and she jumped back. Then the third and fourth tried to grab her. "Hadō One! Shō!" Maaya pointed her open left hand to the ground, and pushed herself up with the force of the Kidō. It wasn't meant to be used that way. But she was pushing against the ground. Something had to move.

Maaya tumbled to the ground, dirtying her clothes mainly. She stood up as quickly as possible. She began to breathe a little more heavily. She couldn't close in with this guy again. She'd have to use Kidō against him. But... Maaya was full of unlimited energy like some of the Captains were. "Hadō One! Shō!" Maaya repeated the Kidō, this time aimed at the Hollow. It pushed it back about fifty yards, throwing it into the forest. She'd have to get help somehow... She couldn't take this thing out.

Three hours. Within those three hours, J. had just been pacing around the Saionji Manor. For some reason, his mind would not get off of Maaya. Scenerios that he did not approve of at all made their way into this mind. Powerful hollows, Arrancar, an Ishino Assassin, thugs from the Rukongai, or her tripping and falling were things that he had running through his mind. What if she was hurt? What if she needed help? She was out on her own, so what if she was ambushed? Agh! J. went to the kitchen to grab a snack. His presence startled the others in there because rarely did he step in unless something was wrong. So much for getting things done today; His mind was so concentrated on whether Maaya needed his help that he couldn't concentrate on his work. He got a glass of milk and downed it. From there, the unknowingly worried young shinigami Captain began, once again, pacing through his halls.

Meanwhile, during the time that J. was freaking out in his own calm manner, there were things going on in the Research and Development Center. "What do you mean the phone is reading wrong?" a young woman with brown wavey hair asked in anger. "I don't know, ma'am. Only one phone seems to be effected." a young man replied as he tried to hack back into the system. "Well, who's is it?" the woman asked. The man turned back to her and replied, "Maaya Ishino... It was her first mission today and something had bugged her phone." The woman's face blanked and soon turned into a panic, "AHHH THE SAIONJI ARE GONNA KILL US ALL!!!" The man dull faced and stared at the woman as she began freaking out, "The only two you have to worry about are the Captai-..." He suddenly received a glare and a raised eyebrow that pretty much said "Exactly" and he realized something. "Shit, we're dead."

Within moments a Shinigami from the Research and Development Center was running as quickly as they could to the Saionji Manor. Once he got there, he bursted through the doors and passed the guards, sliding to a stop at J.'s feet. Having heard the doors slam open, J. immediately readied himself and the guards quickly surrounded the intruder. "I apologize greatly for the sudden intrusion, Captain Saionji, but this is for you." the man held up a piece of paper and J. took it from him, "An emergency about Lady Maaya Ishino. Her phone... something is wrong with it and we haven't been able to correct the situation... I fear she needs your help... No-." The man didn't get to finish his sentence before J. shunpo'd out of his own home. "INFORM MY BROTHER." He shouted before vanishing, making his way as quickly as he could to the Rukongai. "God damn it..." he said, clenching his jaw in anger, "Maaya."

By the time J had arrived, the fight was nearly over. Maaya leaned against a wall, her forehead bleeding enough to block one eye with a constant stream of scarlet. Her left arm dangled without usage left in it. It, too, dripped scarlet. Maayas right arm was raised, her sword shaking and chipping as all four hands tried to push down. Maaya's chest heaved with each breath, her black shihakusho wet with something. There were tears in it, lots of them.

But Maaya's face was strained in defiance. She was hurt and in pain, but defiance showed first. She wasn't going to lose. She had to protect her Lord. A bit of blood trickled from her mouth as she stared at the Hollow. It wasn't some run-of-the-mill one. It was an adjuchas. It scowled at Maaya.

The thing wasn't unharmed. Chunks were cut out from all of its arms, and all of the hands were missing at least one digit. There was even one that only had three left. Its mask was cracking from a few nicks Maaya had struck at it. But the biggest hit was the fact the thing was missing its entire tail. It was already disappearing.

Maaya caught the sight of J in the corner of her eye. She looked to him, horrified moreso than relieved. Why... did he have to see her like this? Why did he have to save her? Maaya's pride faltered. Maaya had the strength for one more Kidō. Maaya had to decide what she could do. She decided. "Hadō 12... Fushibi!" Her voice cracked as she screamed the Kidō's name.

And it fizzled out as it tried to leave her right hand. Orange sparks traveled up her arm, small popping noises coming from each one. She had the energy. She didn't have the concentration. It forced the Kidō back at her, and her arm jerked, pushing the Hollow back ever so slightly. Her right sleeve was gone, and her arm looked burned from her wrist up to her shoulder. She heaved another breath out... and fell to the ground. She was still against the wall, and she brought her Zanpakutō up, almost snarling at the hollow. The hollow only laughed at her. It seemed that it hadn't sensed the other approaching Shinigami...

"Hurry the fuck up , J*******." he yelled at himself as he rushed through the Rukongai, leaving a trail of dust behind him, unknowingly knocking up a few short skirted kimonos at the same time. He shunpo'd every change he got, darted farther and farther out to where he knew Maaya was stationed. He was getting closer to the mountain ranges she was stationed near. As he arrived, he saw evidence of the startings of a battle and began to look around in a hurry. It was what most people would call a 'panic'. J. sensed the raising and lowering of Reiryoku and definitely recognized the smaller one. He darted off in that direction, shunpo'ing again before making it into the area. Off in the distance, he could see Maaya fighting a rather large hollow, one that was more powerful than she had the ability to handle. He then saw her attempt at a Kidō and his eyes widened when he could sense the backfire.

"Maaya." he muttered her name as he heard the hollow laugh. The bastard didn't seem to sense him coming, which was done intentionally. J. lowered the radius of his own reiryoku to make it seem like he wasn't there until it was too late for the hollow to react. As the large adjuchas decided to go in on the attack, J.'s foot practically dug it's way into the ground below. He used all his strength and speed to dart forward, without using the actual shunpo technique to make sure he had enough control over his strike, and bursted forward with a sudden exertion of reiryoku that caused a shift in the wind. The hollow seemed to realize he had just fucked up, but it was to late to pull the attack and defend himself. Before Maaya was struck, J.'s right knee slammed devestatingly into the side of the hollow. The adjuchas' body practically crumbled as it was flung away from Maaya and sent into a mountain.

With calm, heavy breaths, J. stood there watching as the dust cleared. If the hollow got back up, he'd imme-... Nope. "Shakkaho." J. held up his right palm and fired off a massive blast of bright red reiryoku in the form of a beam. As the blast hit, it devestated the area the adjuchas had landed. When the dust did finally clear, the body of the hollow was fading away. Even when the hollow was gone, J. stood still for a bit. He looked serious and slightly angry, but his mind was going in different directions. She's hurt, what does he do? How does he comfort her? Does he take her off the mission or have Squad Four come heal her so she can continue it? J. finally looked toward her and walked over. He gently sat her up to leaned against the wall and began inspecting her body for her injuries.

"Your arms... head..." J. ripped part of his Shihakusho and wiped her forehead off, trying to get the blood out of her eye. "Maaya..." he said her name and it was followed by a relieved sigh. He did not know what else to say, so instead he leaned in and kissed her forehead. "I'm very glad you're alright."

Maaya didn't see the fight between the Hollow and J. She was something that was bright, flashy, and moving really quickly, but she didn't see a fight. Her vision was blurry, and not just from the blood. She was exhausted. If she continued too much, her body would have given out on her. As Maaya saw the larger shape disappear, her sword dropped to the ground.

Her arm was too tired to move it, so it rolled out of her fingers. She breathed a couple of heavy breaths. Each time she blinked, it was for seconds each. She eventually made out J's voice. "My... Lord...?" Maaya whimpered as she tried to make out J's shape. She couldn't. Not until J started wiping her blood away from her eyes. She opened her other eye, and J was still blurry, but he was there.

A light smile crawled up on Maaya's face. She wanted to ask him what he was doing there. He kissed her forehead, and she winced a bit in pain. Maaya's smile was weak. It was happy in one way, but there was pain all around it. "I'm sorry... I didn't live up to your expectations, My Lord..." Maaya's voice cracked as she apologized. She felt she had dishonored him by not being able to handle it.

"I can... attend supplementary lessons if you still wish me around." Maaya's vision began to go blurry again. She reached up, and went to touch J's head. Almost like a wife would, but she retracted her hand a few inches away. That's right... It flowed back to her. They weren't husband and wife. She was just living with him.

"Maaya, you did wonderfully. Now stop talking; you'll only stress yourself." J. was a very observant person when it came to the physical. Firstly, she flinched when he kissed her. Secondly, with the way her eyes were moving, he could tell that she was having a hard time seeing him. At first, he thought it might have just been the blood in her eyes, but no. He had wiped that away. Something was wrong. Had she been struck in the head? Had she lost too much blood? Had that thing done something more specific to her, like a spell or something? "You don't need any extra lessons; this was not your fault." He told her, his voice actually showing worry as her voice began to crack and waver.

    J. watched Maaya reach up to touch him in a manner that had not been done between them before now. He was not going to stop her, but she ended up doing that herself. He took in a deep breath and sighed, "Come on. Let's go." J. gently slid his arms under her and scooped her up. He held her firmly and kept her close to him. He said nothing more before shunpo'ing back to the Seireitei. Like before, he rushed through with little regard toward the other people within the Rukongai. A few skirts flew up, dust trails were left, and a few light weight objects ended up on the ground. Soon, the two of them made it back to the gate and J. was surprised to see Kazuo and two others there.

"Um... Brother?" J. came to a sliding stop about five feet from Kazuo's location and blinked a few times. There was a look of surprise on his face when he looked passed his brother and saw two rather notable people standing there with smiles toward him. "What is this?" J. asked, protectively tightening his grip on Maaya. The two that were standing behind Kazuo were Captain Midori Hayashi of the Fourth Division, someone slightly expected to be here. The other though, was Head Captain Kaminari Hatakeyama who J. had not expected at all. "Captain Little Saionji called me, so I called the Head Captain... Sorry, Captain Big Saionji, but I just had to meet her! Now put her down, let me do my job!"

Maaya had only noticed she was being picked up because there was pressure on her back. Maaya did not curl into J like she had before. Instead, she just laid there. She was blanking out on what to do. She didn't have supplementary lessons. "My Lord... the mission..." Maaya's voice was low as she tried to reach back towards where the battle took place. She wanted to complete the mission.

Kazuo had sensed his brother coming, and nodded to the two women behind him. Kazuo was wearing his full attire, Zanpakutō and everything. The air almost crackled with the tension around this gate. The gatekeeper was standing far off to one side, paying strict attention to something that wasn't the gate. Kazuo waved his brother off as he approached. "I figured it wouldn't hurt to have Captain Hayashi here. I don't know abo—"

Midori burst in at that moment, and Kazuo interrupted her with a slight annoyed look "Little?!" Kazuo was six-foot-two, and J was only a few inches taller. He wasn't little! Maaya's eyes fluttered slightly as J sat her down. She didn't really open them while Midori was doing her thing. "J, you okay?" Kazuo looked at his brother with a slightly-worried flame in his eyes. He knew his brother was physically okay, but that blood... There was a lot of it.

Then, Kazuo turned to the Head-Captain. "Head-Captain Hatakeyama, why are you out here? You should probably be resting." Kazuo's tone was concerned, but curious. For her to be out here...

"Your mission will be dealt with. I will not allow you to risk more injury than you already have." J. told her just before they darted off toward the Seireitei. As they came to the gate, Kazuo tried to explain everything, but Midori caught him off. That was just like her: a little too excited right now. "Oh? Do you not like your nick name?" Midori said with the sweetest of smiles on her face, "I don't mean that you're little as in small, just younger. There is technically nothing little about you." Midori said this while straightening up Kazuo's haori and dusting him off a bit. Kaminari was standing back and keeping her eyes closed for some reason. Midori asked for Maaya to be set down, so J. did. There was a blanket for her to lay on, so J. made sure to put her there. "I'd get her back to the infirmary first, but I'd rather stabilize her..." Midori said as she began her set of healing Kidō. Seeing Maaya's injuries, she shoo'd J. away from the two of them and started trying to stabilize Maaya.

    J. was surprised by Midori's free spirited behavior, as usual, and just walked away. "So you're Maaya Ishino..." Midori whispered to Maaya, "You're quite the beautiful woman; I can see why Captain Big Saionji has become smitten with you." Midori let out a soft giggle and continued the healing Kidō. Off to the side, Kaminari was talking with J. and Kazuo. "I am..." J.'s eyes looked everywhere for the word he needed to say, "...concerned... Why was it only her Soul Phone? I can understand a system bug, but..." "We're looking into that." Kaminari crossed her arms and took a deep breath. Up until now, she was concentrating on not laughing at Kazuo's reaction toward Midori. "From what information I've been given, it seems someone hacked especially into her Soul Phone using R&D's super computer... It's not exactly my subject, but... I can confirm that who ever did this...  Yes, Captain Saionji, they were targeting Maaya." "Lady Ishino." J. corrected, receiving a raised eyebrow. "Lady Ishino."

"I have my suspicions on who." "As do I." Kaminari turned away and began coughing. Hearing Kazuo's question about her well-being, she only smiled and shook her head. "I should be... and Tsubine is probably going to scold me for doing otherwise, but I truly needed to meet her..." Kaminari looked over to Maaya as the woman was being healed, "It's not every day that someone is able to catch your brother's eye, Captain Little Saionji." Yes, she used the nickname too. "Catch my eye?" J. raised an eyebrow, not understanding what that meant. He looked to his brother for clarification, figuring Kazuo would understand the phrase. Once Kazuo explained, Kaminari chimed up again. "Anyways... I had to check in with Midori and get some blood work done... I plan on doing that when we get Lady Ishino back to the Infirmary." Kaminari explained the rest and them motioned to J., "Go see her..." J. looked over to see Midori giving a thumbs up and waving him over, so he stepped over to them.

"Is she alright?" J. asked and Midori nodded. "Yes, she's stable, but I'd like to keep her in the infirmary over night to make sure." Midori stood and looked to Maaya, "You think you can sta-..." J. didn't even give Maaya the chance to try. He leaned down and pulled her right back into his arms. Midori got a pleasantly surprised look on her face and looked back to Kaminari, pointing a thumb back towards J. like "Did you see that?" Kaminari just chuckled and nodded, motioning for them to get going. "Someone is falling in looove." Kaminari said and looked to Kazuo, "You're next, I assume? Everyone here has got one, but you. Which is a damn shame, because you're the one, out of all of us, that likely deserves it." Yes, before shunpo'ing toward the Fourth Division, Kaminari gave Kazuo one hell of a compliment.

    Little.
Kazuo didn't particularly care for that nickname. He was shorter, and he was younger, and frankly, he was weaker. Kazuo had an inferiority complex when it came to his brother—and only his brother. J was just all-around better than Kazuo. Frankly, the only thing Kazuo had going for him over his brother was that his hair was longer. But even that was just... Kazuo shrugged it off, even though the thought still grinded in his head.

Kazuo already had a guess as to what happened. Everything with the Ishino that had happened so far, plus the fact he had been doing research on his own was... making him paranoid to say the least. His position didn't help. He grunted again as the "Little" comment came out. "My height went to my hair..." Kazuo muttered under his breath.

J's confusion snapped Kazuo out of his irritation. "It means she tickles your fancy." That also warranted an eyebrow raise from J. Dear lord, this man probably didn't know the meaning of the word "metaphor." "It means you care for her more than you would most. I'd drop the l-word, but I don't think you'd react well to it." Kazuo was being serious. Kazuo didn't know how J would react to being told "yeah, you love her."

Kazuo stood by Kaminari, watching his brother take Maaya into his arms. It shocked him a bit, although not as much as Kaminari. "Fallen in love," Kazuo corrected her. There was no way this woman wouldn't be his wife. That's what Kazuo thought at least. And then came his turn to blush. Love? Him?

Kazuo had thought of it, moreso lately even, but was he really next? And what did she mean about "deserves" it? Why? He was a Captain like everyone there—save for Maaya, of course. Was it because he took care of his brother, and explained metaphors and emotions to him? Was it because he was good looking? His family? What?! Kazuo went to ask Kaminari, but she had left. He growled a bit.

"I'll meet you there. I need to run to my Division first." Kazuo then shunpo'd away, to his office. He had to make a couple of phone calls—metaphorically speaking. About an hour later, Kazuo made it to the 4th Division's infirmary, and met up with his brother. "Just got word from a scout," he spoke low so only those right next to him could hear, "and the Ishino compound is locked up tighter than usual. Guards are posted all around. They're acting oddly."

Maaya blushed as Midori complimented her. It wasn't every day she was complimented by someone as beautiful as Midori. She weakly nodded, "Thank you." She didn't even catch the part about J being smitten with her. It just didn't register yet. And then it did. She tried to sit up in surprise, but Midori forced her back down. "S-smitten?!" Her voice was almost a whisper, "my Lord isn't smitten with me..."

For about a full second, Maaya pondered on that. Was he? He had taken her out on a private lunch or dinner a few times over the past two months. And he had given her gifts. He didn't scold her unless she did something explicitly wrong. Plus, he always seemed a bit calmer when she was around. "...is he?" Maaya's tone was genuinely curious. She was smitten with him, but were her feelings returned.

A few minutes later, J came over and asked how she was. She was about to sit up when J picked her up. She let out a squeak of surprise. It was cute. This time, Maaya did curl up a bit more, and kept her unbroken arm on his shoulder. The other one rested across her stomach. She nestled her head in on his chest and listened to his heart.

Maaya had fallen asleep during their trip to the infirmary, and it wasn't until about an hour and a half later that she came to. Her Zanpakutō lay on a table beside her, and J was just outside of her room. She could see him talking, and he didn't look calm and composed like he normally did. There was a rage about him, even if he wasn't screaming or yelling across the hall.

People needed to learn to use language that he understood. All these metaphors went way over his head. He wasn't stupid or anything like that. It was just rare that someone spoke to J. in a more casual manner. Only recently, or with his brother, had anyone been treating him in a more casual way. Well, except with Midori. Those two actually had a bit of history and she often treated him like a child. He was surprised he still had an ear. When Maaya curled into him this time, he felt a bit better about her situation. As usual, Midori must have done a wonderful job. The group made their way, currently without Kazuo, back to the infirmary. For the next hour or so, J. stood by Maaya's side and Midori worked on healing her wounds. Normally, she'd ask someone else to do the rest since Maaya was stable, but when she tried, J. stared at her with a dull expression until she changed her mind about it.

Because of this, Maaya's healing went much faster and was much more efficient. Once she was well, J. stepped out of the room to speak to Midori, but was interrupted by the arrival of his younger brother. "Any news?" J. asked and Midori stepped away. "I'll be back. Kam-... The Head Captain's tests should be done by now." Midori bowed respectively and excused herself. The two brother's continued their conversation and J. began to tense. It wasn't out of worry, but out of pure rage. "It seems we're going to have to act much sooner." J. stated through a clenched jaw, "If they keep this up, it's possible for them to get to her..." J. glanced back toward Maaya for a short moment and noticed she was awake. He just blinked a few times and then turned back to Kazuo. "So, is it confirmed that an Ishino spy are the culprits to the bugging of Maaya's phone? Or can we only conclude that they're acting odd?"

"We can confirm... His name is Asao Ishino and had recently been placed into the R&D." Kaminari stepped into the room, scratching at her arm where blood had been drawn, "He's been arrested because the hacking originated from his station. I have a few from my squad looking through security video right now... trying to match the time of the hacking with who was ever at his station." Midori stepped in right behind Kaminari and pat the top of the brown haired woman's head. Kaminari's left eye twitched. "It's a shame... Why is her own family intent on harming her? It has been a long time since the Gotei has had any issue with any of the Four Noble Houses..." Midori said. J. took in a deep breath and stepped into the room with Maaya, leaving the rest to talk. Midori looked sadly toward him. "Poor guy..." Kaminari stiffened and dull faced at that comment. "Poor what now? Anything but poor!"

"Oh, Kaminari! Shush. I didn't mean money wise..." Midori said and put her hands on her hips. "Neither did I! Poor ME! You know how much paper work I have to do because of his training sessions? How many squad members I have to trans-..." Kaminari was cut off by a hand over her mouth. She puffed up her cheeks and glared back at Midori, who turned to Kazuo. "Captain Little Saionji..." she spoke up to him, still keeping Kaminari quiet, "Have you spoken to any of the other Noble Houses? It is possible that they know something you don't... If the Ishino are acting this boldly, it's possible they have aid..." Kaminari calmed down and both she and Midori waited for Kazuo's answer, wondering if he had thought of it that way. "Well, we'll have to see about this... Come on... Let's go check on Maaya." Midori said, looping her arms with Kaminari and Kazuo and pulling them into the room with the other two.

Once J. entered the room, he sat down in a chair next to Maaya and just stared at her. With everything on his mind, his stare was a little more intense than it needed to be. He was deep in thought for quite a while, not paying attention to anything said to him. Once he'd hear Maaya's voice though, she'd be able to see the focus coming back to her. He looked toward her hand and realized something. He hadn't done what his brother told him to do a long time ago! He had never held her hand. Shit... Was this bad? Should he have done it a long time ago? Yes, but he didn't understand that! J. looked to his hand for just a moment and gently slid it under Maaya's so she wouldn't have to move her arm or feel any real pressure anywhere. "I'm proud of you." he told her, running his thumb along her held hand, "You fought wonderfully and did not back down. You've accomplished a lot and should be proud too."

A couple moments later, the other group stepped in. Midori just about flipped out! She pointed toward J. and Maaya's hands and then placed her hands on her cheeks, twisting her body back and forth, and giggling like a super happy school girl. "You two are such a cute couple!! I'm so happy for you both! Congratulations!!" Midori then received a bonk on the head by Kaminari, who almost couldn't reach her. Kaminari then cleared her throat and put her hands behind her back as if to be professional. "I agree. You two look great together. Now, J-..." Kaminari cleared her throat again, almost momentarily speaking J.'s name, "Captain Big Saionji... You are in charge of helping your brother find a potential mate." Midori bonked Kaminari on the head then. "You can't make him do that, it's not his job!" Kaminari looked away, "Nope, but I can make it his job." "My brother is quite capable of findi-..."

"Yes, but I feel guilty. He is the only one here that is not with someone. He should have a girlfriend..." Kaminari then dropped the professional demeanor, "I MEAN COME ON! Kauzo is like... the ONE person out of everyone here that SHOULD have a girlfriend, but it's like... like... WHY!?" Kaminari slouched a bit and looked to Kazuo like he was crazy, "What are you doing? Or not doing? Are you saying no to every girl that asks you out? Or are all of them stuck on your hardass of a brother? If so, then I understand, but your brother is like... a eight and a half... you're an eight. You should have a woman." Midori blinked a couple times and shook her head, "Wait... You consider them eights? Are you nuts?! Kazuo is definitely a nine and a half and J.'s a nine." Kaminari waved that off, "Nope... That would put them too close to Tsubine, and that's impossible." "You're being biased! Grade right!" Bonk, bonk.

It was odd, the Head Captain and Midori. Frankly, it was damn weird. Like, X-Files weird. Kazuo was waiting on Mulder and Scully to walk in. Midori was odd, and he knew this from just seeing her at Captain's Meetings. But the Head-Captain? Was she actually this looney? Dear lord, why is the Gotei in her hands?! No, Kazuo didn't need to question it. He should trust in the former Head-Captain's decision. "Yes, I have spoken with the remaining two. They're not only denying anything to do with the Ishino, but they're saying they'll back us if we're prosecuting them. I plan on talking with the heads of each to see what else the Ishino have done."

Maaya just blinked at what was going outside her room. The Head-Captain was... strange to Maaya. But Midori was more strange. She was so carefree. It was odd in its own way. Maaya sat up as J came in. "My Lord..." Maaya's voice was soft, weak still, but with a hint of glee in it. She was happy to see J. Very happy to see him.

When J's hand met hers, Maaya's face went blood red. She squeezed down a few seconds later. Tears almost formed in her eyes as he told her he was proud of her. "It is thanks to your training, my Lord." Maaya was in pain still, but it was so much less than it was before. She was more just happy that J was there. He didn't leave her. That meant something, although she didn't know what. Maaya jumped when Midori began to squee and shake.

And then it came Kazuo's turn to turn bright red. Wait. No. He shook his head, and closed the door behind them. This room was technically over capacity, but screw the rules. Kaminari made them now. "Hey! I don't need anyone's help." He blurted out after his brother tried to answer.

Kaminari's tirade continued. Nines? Eights?! What?! WHY WERE THEY RATING HIM?! Oh dear lord, what was going through their mi—Nope. Kazuo's mind shook that thought right out. Kazuo didn't want to know what they were thinking. It could be indecent. He cleared his throat. "I'd appreciate that if you aren't looking at getting with me, that you please don't rate me. Although the numbers are flattering, it's... weird."

"Listen. Head-Captain, Captain Hayashi, I do appreciate the thought. I really, really do. But... I'm perfectly capable of finding someone on my own. I don't need J's help. Frankly, he might use the same interview process he uses to get one for me. And there's no telling how long that'd take." He shot a smile to his brother. "But in all seriousness, I'll find someone when I'm ready... There's just too much going on right now. Plus, I just haven't found 'the one' for me yet."

"I believe that opportunity has come and gone..." Midori blinked a few times and looked down to Kaminari, "You had Kazuo at a ten back when you were training him, right?" Kaminari tilted her head back a bit to think and then looked to Kazuo, nodding a couple times. "Actually yeah, I remember that. He's was quite impressive at that time..." Kaminari nodded along with her own speech and then turned to Kazuo again, "Not to say that it's lessened with time. You're still quite the impressive Shinigami, but Midori is right. There was a time it would have been possible, but I highly doubt either of us were thinking beyond our training at that time. Romance was not anywhere to be found in our thoughts."

"That's okay though. You'll find someone when the time comes, but you can't expect us not to rate you..." Midori shook her head and put her hands on her hips. Midori looked back and forth between Kazuo and J. wondering whether either of them knew, but it might have looked like she was grading them again. "You do realize women rate men all the time, right?" Midori asked, still looking between them, "Sure, Kaminari and I are a little more open with it, but that's because we're quite secure in our current relationships." "Yeah. We mean no offense by it at all, but no matter where you go, woman are going to rate and compare you against the other men they have seen. It's just how it goes."

"Beyond that, I do hope you know the two of you..." Midori pointed between J. and Kazuo, "... are constantly being rated and compared against each other." Kaminari nodded and crossed her arms, "J. does it... well, did it. Before Maaya, all he ever did was rate women by how they looked and how they answered their questions. If they weren't up to his standards, he'd kick them." "Exactly! Congratulations Maaya; You're the first ten to walk through that door." "So... How exactly do women rate men? Where does the system come from? Is it personal or official grading?" "Personal." "Yeah. And it depends... It's how attractive the face is, eyes, hair, height, how fit they are, and voice."

"You grade voice? How?" "Well, how deep a man's voice is... Usually, the deeper the better." "For instance, you guys score high points in all of those aspects." "Attractive masculine faces... both tall." "Absolutely amazing hair that I swear I want to touch!" "Ha... And your guys' eyes are rather piercing and strong." "Overall, very attractive, which is why you get a nine or higher in my book." "Eight and a half...." "She's cheating though. She's grading on a curve because of Tsubine, and frankly it's not fair." "Taking Tsubine out of the question, I'd jump you both to nine and a nine and a half, is that better?" Kaminari shot a playfully annoyed glare toward Midori who just smiled sweetly back at her.

"Little Saionji doesn't want us grading him anyway." "It's impossible, deal with it. What's done is done." "If it is all on a personal scale, what either of your grades are matters little to me anyways." J. said his grip only slightly tightening around Maaya's hand. He was hoping she would chime in on the subject and got a glance from him because of it. Midori, of course, saw this and looked to Maaya. "Well, if you had to grade the two men in here, what would you say? On a scale from one to ten, grade them. I'm sure J. would love to hear it, whether he admits it or not." Midori said. J. just blinked a couple times, denying nothing, and looked to Maaya. Everyone's attention was now on her. "You two Captain Kazuo Saionji... Rate the women." And when Kaminari said this, it sounded more like an order than suggestion.

Kazuo blushed more as Kaminari admitted he was once a ten. That was nice. BUT STOBBIT. No more, please. Kazuo's head could only hold so much blood. Kazuo shook his head in response to Midori's question. It was odd. Did they really? Kazuo didn't do that. He had read in some modern magazine that was "sexist" and "offensive." That "comparing" women was "wrong." But they could do it? DOUBLE STANDARDS!

"Uh... yeah, we know." Kazuo sighed. He didn't like being compared to his brother. Well, he did in some ways. It let him know how close he was to catching up to J. But in other ways, Kazuo did have an inferiority complex. His brother was better than him. Kazuo believed that through-and-through.

Maaya actually looked to Kaminari as she said "kick them." Honestly, Maaya didn't know if she was being literal or not. She could see it in some ways, but in other ways, she couldn't. She looked to J, still blushing, as she was called a ten. Maaya just listened. It was... just weird. Maaya didn't do what they did. She... didn't have many people to compare, for one. For two, she thought it impolite. For three, no one could stand up to J. Well, maybe Kazuo, but that's pushing it.

"Um... I do not really... know how to compare them, ma'am. It's not something I've done." Kazuo looked at Midori and Kaminari like "yeah, see, not every woman does it." "Master Kazuo and my Lord both have their strong suits in appearance and personality. I couldn't really say one is better than the other because they are very different despite being so close... My Lord," Maaya's face turned blood red, "is... more to my tastes, though."

And then came Kaminari's 'suggestion.' Kazuo unfolded his arms, and turned around. He opened the door, stepped through, and closed it. And Kazuo Saionji actually ran down the hall to get away.

Kaminari and Midori both understood where Maaya was coming from, at least to a degree. They didn't know her very well, but she didn't seem like the type. They also felt that since Maaya wasn't super close to Midori or Kaminari, it'd be a little awkward to answer the question. It really was more of a 'girl talk' scenario anyways. Seeing Maaya blush like that was overwhelmingly adorable. Kaminari and Midori had to fight saying a long 'awww' over it. When J. heard Maaya's answer, he looked toward her with a very soft expression. There was something rather light in his eyes, but even he wouldn't be able to place it. Instead, he relaxed a bit more and kept running his thumb along the hand he was holding.

And then everything went to Kazuo. All eyes were on him. Kaminari was expecting an answer, but that didn't happen. Instead, Kazuo turned away from them, walked out, and began running. The moment the woman heard his footsteps quicly going down the hall, Midori and Kaminari looked to each other burst out laughing. They both ended up holding their stomach. Kaminari shook her head and made her way toward the door. "Get well Maaya... I have a Captain who's not following orders." Kaminari vanished from the hallway and ran after Kazuo. "Y-Yes... hahahaha... Please... rest for as long as you can. I'm sure Captain Saionji here will take good care of you." Midori said with a final laugh.

"I do have to get back to work... If either of you need me, please don't hesitate to ask..." Midori bowed to them both and stepped toward the door, but stopped before vanishing, "Also... Maaya, if you can find out his name for the rest of the Gotei... It'd be a wonderful accomplishment that I'm sure you'll be rewarded for." Midori sent a wink toward them both and walked off toward her office. "If I am ever to tell you my name, I trust in your ability to keep it secret." J. looked to Maaya. It wasn't threatening and he wasn't speaking in a manner of command. It was almost as if he was stating a fact. He trusted her. "Maaya, would you like to return to the Saionji Manor or stay here for observation?"

It didn't take long before Kaminari was able to spot Kazuo. He wasn't exactly shunpo'ing around, so it wasn't that hard. With a final shunpo, she appeared in front of him and immediately grabbed his haori. "W-Wait... hahaha... Tired.. Don't make me chase... Hahaha please..." Kaminari wiped her brow a bit and sighed, "I didn't think... it would bother you that much. I'm sorry. I was just messin' with you. You could have just declined to answer. You didn't have to... hahaha run..." She shook her head again. She couldn't stop laughing. His reaction was hilarious! She almost couldn't believe that happened!

Maaya blinked at Kazuo. And then, she giggled. A lot. She didn't roll back her head in a full-on laughter. She couldn't do that. But Kazuo had just made her smile. Her eyes tightened as she giggled almost uncontrollably, and stopped a few seconds after Midori and Kaminari did. Her grip on J's hand never faltered. Maaya nodded, still smiling weakly. "Thank you for your concern, Head-Captain."

Maaya nodded in agreement with Midori. She needed to rest well. Maaya bowed her head to Midori as she left, and smiled. J would take good care of her. She knew that. But she wasn't going to make him do that. Maaya was head-over-heels in love with J, but she still knew that she was in a lower position than she was. She would not make him doctor her or anything. But she knew J would make sure that she had everything she needed.

But what she wanted was him. With Midori's comment, Maaya looked to J, extremely confused. "So your name isn't 'Jay'?" Maaya had never seen his name written out. She had always heard them call him 'J.' So, her assumption was that his name was 'Jay.' She had been going on that assumption, and it was... embarrassing now. "I-I promise that I won't tell anyone." Her face was reddening even more.

J's question was a hard one, and she tightened her grip for a moment while she thought. "I... think it would be best if I stayed here overnight. I could have injuries that were not originally noted. But," Maaya stared right at J, "what I want is to be by you, my Lord. If that means I return to the Saionji manor, then I will return to the Saionji manor." Maaya wanted nothing more than to sleep by him every night she could. And a few broken bones weren't going to stop her tonight, unless J objected.

Kazuo was running so fast, many nurses didn't get a chance to see who it was who was running. His face was twisted into a grimace as he pushed his body harder and harder. Once he got outside, he was scott-free. "A few more yards..." Kazuo muttered under panting breaths. He could make it... He could!

And then he nearly ran into Kaminari who had appeared right in front of him. He skidded to a slow, and tried to squeeze past her, but she grabbed on before he could get away. He swallowed. Thankfully, Kaminari wasn't going to force him to answer. She was laughing too hard, which only made him redden even more.

"I don't feel comfortable saying things like that." Kazuo scratched the back of his head, not making eye contact with Kaminari. "No offense, but I've learned that if you don't tell a woman what she wants to hear when it comes to that, it's almost a death sentence. Especially when the two women I was supposed to grade can probably actually kill me. I'd rather not risk offending either you or Captain Hayashi. I didn't see a good way to get out of the question with words, so..."

    J. stared and stared hard at Maaya when she began giggling so much. His expression wasn't intimidating, but more curious. He understood his brother's intentions when he left, but was not aware of the apparent humor behind it all. Beyond that, her giggle was absolutely adorable. He didn't currently understand that was where his thoughts were going, but he was starting to pick up on something new. Soon, the two intruding women left and J. visibly relaxed. It wasn't much because he always seems stiff, but those who knew him well could see him calm himself a bit. Well, Midori apparently decided it was okay to turn back and throw Maaya a little hint about him. He just blinked a couple times as the green haired woman officially left and then looked to Maaya.

"No. My name is not Jay." he replied when Maaya questioned it. That was a little odd, at least it would be to most people. They've been sleeping in the same bed, but she didn't even know his actual name. "I know you wouldn't. If there ever came a time where I did tell you, it would be because I trust you as much as I do my brother." he explained quite honestly, "The only one's who know my name are my Brother and my Mother, and even she calls me J. It is my preference." The conversation quickly turned to Maaya's well being. He prefered her stay here over night. He was not a doctor of any sort and it would be safer for her. "If you have any injuries that are not known, this is the safest place you can be." he explained and then stood up, letting go of her hand.

"You will stay here for the night and I will pick you up in the morning after you've been checked over." he said and then stepped over to the door. He turned to her for a moment, bowed, and turned away.

    "Rest well, Maaya."

With Kazuo Saionji and Kaminari Hatakeyama... Kaminari just smiled and nodded her head to Kazuo's explanation. "You're a good guy, Kazuo." she said, finally dropping the 'little' Saionji thing and speaking to him on a first name basis. This was more than likely how she usually spoke with him, as a friend and not a superior. It was just in front of his older brother that it wasn't smart to drop the formalities. Although Kaminari could pretty much do what she wanted, there was a certain amount of respect that should be given to those that deserved it. She respected Kazuo obviously, but in her mind their friendship was more important than the superior-subordinate relationship they now had. "And I doubt you'd offend either of us. Well... me at least." she said, causing the universe to laugh. Kaminari would be the one offended. Short and flat chested with an insecurity complex not many could match; yeah, she'd be offended. "Either way... Good luck." Kaminari smiled, winked at him, and shunpo'd away...
