Personality: Makiko is not a happy camper.  Makiko is somewhat the opposite.  She doesn't like anything, she doesn't like anyone, and quite frankly even she wonders what base desire built into her psyche is preventing her from not caring about her own existence.  After all she has to care at least a little if she has a sense of self preservation.  Either way, she doesn't like anything.  She doesn't like other people, they tend to be annoying.  She isn't exactly miserable, or maybe she is.  So little feels worthwhile and so much annoys her that she very well might be.  Yet for some reason she does the job of a Shinigami willingly, even if she doesn't like the job.  It isn't that she is lazy, cause effort is just as disliked as not making an effort.  It's as if she functions off the culture in the most basic sense.  She shows required respect to superiors, even if they annoy her as much as everything else.  She helps souls because it's part of the culture to help those souls out, but she dislikes said souls as much as anything else.  

In a word, apathy.  Life itself and everything in it is treated with apathy, while leaning towards the negative.  She can be uptight and harsh as a result.  If someone wants to do something and she doesn't, she doesn't let them down gently.  She will just tell them no in a blunt manner.  If she for some reason ever wanted to talk, she would likely ask in a rather blunt manner that sounds more like "You're talking to me now" while still actually being a question that can be declined.  She never really wants to talk to people though so that most certainly won't.  She doesn't outwardly shove people away, not on purpose.  Her demeanor does that for her.  Rather if someone is so bent on talking to her, she might humor them.  If she thinks someone needs to do something she won't hold back, and just flat out tell them it.  You need to train?  She doesn't care who you are, excluding any superior who would react terribly.  She will say "You need to train."  If the person is being lazy enough she might even throw "are you trying to be worthless?" into the mix.  Don't ask her if she likes you, because in the end, the answer will not be pleasing.  She even thinks that life can be gone by perfectly without a lover.  They aren't needed.  Romance?  Unnecessary.  Pointless.

Notes:  Writes Haiku, plays violin, will criticize art with extreme prejudice, good at calligraphy, won't go out of her way to achieve more hobby's unless pushed somehow.  She secretly enjoys the color green.  Has a soft spot for crepes and if offered crepes has trouble saying no (to crepes, get yo mind out of the gutter).  Trying to get on her good side (or be the first person in it)?  Hint, crepes will help.


Character Background: Makiko was born to a fairly stiff family in Japan.  Not too much to say here, especially since she doesn't remember much.  What there is to say is this family pounded so much anti-fun into her head that it's surprising she isn't ACTUALLY miserable.  She remembers that much, that her family taught her that all that mattered was not looking like a fool in society and making sure people who do something know exactly what they did.  After death though, she wandered the Rukongai.  Her personality didn't exactly leave much room for getting places in Rukongai though, which didn't help her achieve a positive outlook on much.  Bluntness and harsh opinion don't get people very far when they don't hold any power over others in any way shape or form.  Not being good at anything considered valuable in the circumstance made this even worse.  She needed to eat though, so it wasn't long before she ended up going to the academy for Shinigami.

She was talented, but also a bit difficult to deal with.  She gave superiors required respect sure, but she didn't exactly extend that to peers.  After all, she just tells them exactly how she feels or what she thinks about things, and she had a bad habit of not thinking positively.  Yet if nothing else she was honest, which was better than the other way around...sometimes.  She didn't do anything too spectacular.  She graduated in the upper percentage of her class, but didn't get out early from talent.  She wasn't exactly taught to sling spells and throw punches when alive.  She got moved into division nine, if only because she respects "Arts and Culture" more than she usually "seems" to respect people.  Over time she got better with both Hakuda and Kidō.  Inevitably she showed herself to be a step above most shinigami, because with all that socializing she wasn't doing she had time to train.


Unreleased Abilities:

Spiritual Energy:  Moderate.  She is definitely a couple steps above a common shinigami foot soldier, but she has not quite achieved power enough to unlock her shikai.  Thus she is somewhere in the middle.

Hakuda:  Ever slap a bitch?  Makiko hasn't, though she probably would if she wanted to.  She has however punched a hollow in the face.  She is actually quite a bit above average with Hakuda, and is pretty good at martial arts fighting.  If she has to fight a hollow she'll actually take it down hand to hand if it doesn't have any traits making that a bad idea to use such tactics.  She finishes with the Zanpakutō, simply because of the Zanpakutō's function.

Hohō:  Average.

Kidō:  Above average.  Magic is so much easier, she doesn't have to look at a hollow's stupid face up close if she just blows it up.

Zanjutsu:  Average.  Makiko knows how to use her sword like everyone else.
