    New Beginnings [Closed]

Post by Tsubine on Sat Apr 30, 2016 10:17 pm

Kazuo sneezed. Someone, somewhere was talking about him. Probably oogling over his hair or something. It happened a lot, honestly. Almost too much if you ask him, but no one was asking him. No one else was accompanying him. Today, Kazuo was here on personal business. Usually, he only came to the 4th Division for his own checkups or to get medical records on his subordinates. Today, he was going to kill two birds with one stone. He needed a checkup, definitely. He had been working hard since Maaya had come around. But the other reason... Kazuo was hoping he could get this done in one fell swoop.

Kazuo noticed no one was at the receptionist's desk. He waited for a moment, then stopped a passing nurse. "Excuse me, I'm here for my bi-annual checkup and to see Captain Hayashi. Is she in?" Kazuo didn't use his normal smile, but he was friendly. The 4th Division had helped the Saionji out in numerous ways lately. The nurse looked him up and down, thinking... "The Captain is currently out, but I can get your examination out of the way. If you would follow me..." Kazuo nodded and followed the nurse into a private examination room near the end of the hall...

Someone saw this encounter between the naughty nurse and Captain Little Saionji and had no problem rushing off to tell the others about it. Midori just got into the office. She took the back entrance like she always did and stopped around the corner as she heard the gossiping girls talking. "Can you believe she's doing that?!" Yuri said. "If she gets caught, she's dead. You know that right?" Eri replied. "Oh, come on. Captain Hayashi is the only one that ever gets to examine the Captains. I can't blame Megumi. She took her chance while she had it. Captain Saionji is hot as hell. I just wish I had gotten that chance." "What room?" Midori stepped around the corner and startled the two girls. Yuri was caught off guard and stuttered a few times before giving the room Kazuo and Megumi had gone into.

Midori did not shunpo or run. She had a quickened pace and anyone who saw the look on her face got out of the way. The intense rage that shined like fire in her eyes was enough to make Kaminari take a few steps back. When she got to the room, she burst through the door and grabbed the overly excited and now scared to death Megumi by the hair. "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Midori said as she dragged the girl out, closing the exam room door behind her. There was a lot of yelling that echoed through most of the Division's complex. Suddenly some people called in sick, not wanting to deal with an angry Midori. After a few minutes, she had the woman dragged off to the Division's jail cell and then returned to Kazuo's room with his actual file. "I apologize greatly for that, Captain Saionji."

Kazuo was very confused. He thought the examination was normal. But no, apparently not. Midori had stormed in, grabbed the nurse by the hair, and pulled her out of the room. It was somewhat scary, and it reminded Kazuo not to get on Midori's bad side. That was why he was here to apologize. Kazuo's eyes widened as yelling echoed into the room, and he was wondering what was going on. When Midori came back in, Kazuo's face was showing his utter confusion. "Uh... don't... worry about it? Sorry Midori, I don't really understand what was going on. Was she an impostor or something? You didn't have a receptionist, so I stopped her... And she told me she'd examine me while I waited. It's about time for my bi-annual. So... what happened with her?"

Midori leaned against the exam room door. When Kazuo explained what happened, she couldn't help but smile at him. That was an innocence she liked him having. "She'll be sitting in a cell for the next couple of days." Midori stood up and walked over to the counter, setting the file down, and then sitting on a round stool. "I hadn't told any of the Captains, but I make sure that I am the only one who does any of your physicals... especially you and your brother. Do you have any idea how many fans you've got here? Any one of those girls out there would love to come in here and watch you take your shirt off. They'd play like it was a normal examination, but would intentionally not use gloves just to feel you all up. I had one member get very close to sneaking a 'cough for me, Captain' to someone else at a time... She knows that rule and broke it anyway. I'd rather none of you feel like you're being oggled and violated in this office, so no one here even knows where the Captains and even some Lieutenants files are." Midori sighed and cleared her throat, "So you want to get your bi-annual done then?"

Kazuo blinked. So that's what happened? It made sense, he supposed. "Huh... Oh, right. Yeah, I'd like that." Kazuo removed his haori and the top of his shihakusho. Kazuo's body was relatively well-toned. He was definitely one who worked out, and it was obvious why many women would ogle him. It was also obvious why many women would use a checkup for nefarious deeds. While Midori examined him, Kazuo decided to speak up. "That wasn't all I wanted to talk about though... About yesterday... The truth-or-dare... thing. I wanted to apologize for my actions there... I uh... spoke very rashly. And not just that, I snapped at you and was... An asshole, and I wanna apologize for it. So, I'm sorry for the way I talked to you yesterday, Midori. It was... quite wrong of a friend to say those things."

Midori nodded and began the examination. She checked his eyes, his ears, and his throat. "Everything's lookin' good so far." she said as she picked up his file and wrote down a few notes. She went over to the drawer and pulled out her stethoscope  as he began talking. As she closed the door, she froze and listened as he apologized. She smiled and turned to him. She put one finger in front of her lips to signal for him to be quiet. "Deep breath." she said and placed the round end on his chest. She listened to his lungs and his heart, telling him to take a deep breath three times for his chest and back. Once she was done, she put the stethoscope around her neck and smiled again. "It's okay, Captain Saionji. You don't need to apologize. I didn't think too much of it. It was an interesting game, not one I thought Kaminari would pull everyone into doing, but it was fun. Learned a lot about everyone." Midori wrote a few more things down and closed the file. "Alright. Nothing else needs to be done here. And thank you for coming to apologize. I'm sorry that you got asked all the embarrassing questions."

Midori remembered something then. A look of utter embarrassment came over her face and her cheeks looked extremely red. "It was quite the party, huh? I can't believe some of the things that happened there... Kind of wish they'd all go away." Midori put her hand over her face and shook her head, "Just don't ever mention the body shot... If I had known what it was, I wouldn't have accepted the challenge. It was a little weird." Midori's face went back to normal as the embarrassment went away.

Okay, she seemed to accept the apology. Good. Even better than good. Kazuo wouldn't have to worry about reparations or a debt or anything. "It's no problem. I didn't want to risk our friendship because of that crap." Kazuo smiled, then raised an eyebrow as Midori flushed. He sighed. Yeah, it really wasn't fun. "I really don't want to talk about it at all, honestly. It was..." Kazuo tried to think of the right phrasing, but just shrugged. "It just wasn't fun for me, frankly. Sure, some of the stuff was funny. But for the most part, it was merely 'how can I embarrass this person the most.' No real fun in it. If that was the point of the game, then I don't want to play it again." Kazuo thought for a moment. "Do you want to go get a coffee or something? You're looking a little stressed from having to deal with that nurse and remembering yesterday."

Midori was surprised at what he thought of the game. She smiled and nodded, "Yes, sure. I'd love to." Midori stepped out of the exam room, motioning for him to follow. She walked into her office, closing the door after he entered, and opened up a safe behind a picture she had. She set his file inside with the other Captain files and then closed it up. "I don't think that is what the game was about, and it was especially not what Kaminari wanted it to be about, so I'm sad that you felt that way." Midori explained as she walked back over to him, "Think about it... Out of everyone she could have chosen, she chose you, me, and everyone else who was there. It was a game of embarrassing questions and actions, but also a game of trust. I'd never of played that game if I didn't trust the people around that table."

"The way I saw it, Kaminari brought the few people she felt closest to together and wanted them to get to know each other. I'm not very close to Captain Koenig, Big Saionji, or his new little lady friend, but after seeing some of the things that happened... and hearing the questions answered so honestly, I still felt closer to them. Don't repeat this to anyone, but Kaminari is feeling very helpless right now. She won't admit it, but the mistake she made to allow herself to get taken while drunk have been eating at her. Tsubine's helping, but there's only so much he can do... I'm sure she figured that bringing her favorite people together would be her way of saying sorry and helping them relax..." Midori explained as kindly as she could as she led Kazuo out of the building, "Where'd you want to go for coffee?"

Kazuo wasn't really sure if he liked the explanation. Sure, Kaminari did trust those people. Even Kazuo knew that. But still. It wasn't fun. He felt bad about not enjoying it after Midori told him something very confidential, but still... Kazuo was being a stubborn man. He didn't have fun, and that was that. "I won't say a word. But even with that in mind... I think it backfired. Knowing that at least lets me know not to tell Kaminari I didn't have fun. I don't want her to get upset because her idea ended up backfiring." Kazuo gave an apologetic smile and shrug. "While you feel closer, I feel more distant to most of the people there. You are sort-of the exception there. I don't think last night really did anything to how I know you. Anyway, even if Kaminari's intentions were pure, it ended up being twisted into something not fun. I really didn't enjoy yesterday."

After getting to the coffee shop, they both ordered... tea. Kazuo raised an eyebrow as they reached the tiny wrought-iron table that barely fit the two of them. "So... I take it you don't like coffee?" Kazuo had his boyish smile on. "I should've known... You really look like the type that'd enjoy tea over coffee."

"I understand and it's a shame, but I'll make sure she doesn't pull you into the next one. Me, however, I'll definitely be joining." Midori said with a giggle. The two made their way to the coffee shop and, of course, ordered tea. Midori noticed this too and laughed a bit. "Coffee is too dark, I prefer not dying my organs such an ugly color, so I avoid it. You too, I assume?" she replied. Midori looked around at the others at the shop. She was glad that they opened up this place. There was a time that the Seireitei was just boring. Shinigami trained, did paper work, worked, or slept at home out of boredom. The small market areas and restaurants were a wonderful addition. "I'll do my best to avoid conversation that stemmed from yesterdays event, but I do have one question... I've probably asked it before, but..." Midori just shrugged, "Why are you so protective over your hair? I've recently heard girls coming up with plans to cut a lock... Don't worry, I warned them of the impending doom if they ever touched a hair on your head... It's easier when you explain how you know the ins and outs of their anatomy like you know the back of your own hand, so I doubt they'll follow through... But I am curious. It's lovely and I have to admit, I too have thought of sneaking up and touching, but won't."

"Uh... I just don't like the taste. Nothing about 'dyeing my organs.'" Kazuo looked down at his tea and listened to Midori. Yep, she was scary alright. "Uh... Well, thank you for doing that. But it's been like that for as long as I can remember. J always did his hair nicely. Always. And like any normal little brother does, I idolized him. So I took care of my hair, but I also made it my own by growing it out. It took a very, very, very long time to get it this long. I don't want to go through that process again, but beyond that... It's just become a symbol of who I am. The Saionji brothers and their hair, yanno?"

"Lemme ask you something then. Do you really think being a Captain is where your skills should be used? Like, don't get me wrong, I want you around because you're a fantastic healer... but I can just imagine the good work you'd do in the Rukongai. I guess a better way to phrase it would be if you plan to go to the Rukongai and open up a practice there once your tenure is up."

Midori chuckled. "Yes, the Saionji Brothers and their hair." His question stumped her. She thought about it for a moment and shook her head, shrugging lightly. "I don't know, honestly. I know a few former Fourth Division members have done something similar to that, but I don't know if it's my style. I like people, but I don't like being a savior." she explained with another shrug, "I don't want to be the person that if I can't make it to you, it's my fault someone died. Those in the Rukongai often act like their problems are everyone else's fault. I know they don't have the most lovely situations, but they're not trying to do anything to change it either. They are a completely different society in comparison to us in the Seireitei and they often think we need to babysit them... I'm not a babysitter." Midori sighed and crossed her arms, "I bet that sounds a bit selfish... I know it can be, but I'm a person too. They just don't treat others like it... Anyways," She waved that off, "Have you and your brother always been so close? And I know you idolized him as a boy, but is it the same now? ...If I may give my opinion, I don't think you should. He's a good man, but I prefer a smile and a full name. Hahaha..."

Interesting answer. Kazuo was legitimately surprised. He was honestly glad that Midori wasn't going to do that. He could still get her to do his physicals even after she retires this way. But more than that, it made her different. She was always somewhat different just because of her general attitude, but this made her quite different. Kazuo smiled wistfully as she brought up his and his brother's past. "Yeah, we have... in a way. I was always trying to do what I could to impress him because he was just 'so cool' at the time. Being the second child for a noble house isn't like just being a younger sibling. There is a major disconnect between the first and second child. The first is raised to be the heir, while you don't get similar training or status. J's attitude mainly stems from his training and the stuff that occured during. Mine... it comes from trying to talk to the only friend I had at the time. He wasn't one to smile that much even as a kid, so I smiled for him."

Kazuo took a sip of his tea. "I do still admire and look up to him, but I'm one of the few people that can call him out when he's being a dumbass. And this is between you and me..." Kazuo leaned in, whispering to Midori. "He can be quite the dumbass at times, and it's more often than anyone would think." He leaned back, smiling a bit. "J's still a great older brother, and I couldn't ask for anyone better... But for the longest, he was... hard to be around, even for me. Lady Maaya changed that, honestly. She's... perfect for him, or would be... If she'd just go ahead and ask him out or something... Sorry, I'm rambling." Kazuo smiled and shook his head. "I've always wondered this though... And if it's confidential, I understand... but are there any Captains or Lieutenants that skip their checkups? I know I try to go in for mine practically on the same days every year, but I was wondering if any others do that, or if I'm the only punctual one..."

Midori's eyes shined at Kazuo at this point. She put her elbows on the table and her chin in her hands. "Awwww...." she giggled and wiggled in her chair, "That is just too cute. You smiled for him? That is the sweetest thing I've ever heard!" She copied him and took a sip of tea, then returning to her "d'aw" position. She leaned in a bit more when he did. Midori tried imagining Big Saionji being a dumbass and just couldn't, so it made her curious. She could only nod and chuckle about it. "No, no. I love hearing this. It's been a while since we were able to sit and talk, so keep going." Midori nudged him along and continued listening, but was instead asked a question. She thought for a moment about it.

"Kaminari." she said with the dullest expression, "The amount of times I have to drag her in is ridiculous. Then she whines because she 'hates the doctor', I have to pretend I'm offended and then she'll deal with it." Midori just laughed. It took a moment for her to regain her composure. "Other than that, Captain Fujiki and Lieutenant Makabe are on that list. There's one that I wish would skip sometimes, but no... He sees it as a chance to flirt. Of course, I don't mind passing his file off to a nurse sometimes, he'll enjoy the attention." Midori took another sip of her tea and relaxed more. "Since your brother has found his soulmate, what about you? I can't imagine you're alone."

Kazuo laughed. Kaminari, huh? He could so see it. Okitsugu and the new 10th Division Lieutenant, however, were surprising. "I... I have a feeling I know who the flirtatious one is... And I'm so sorry you're a female when you have to deal with him." Kazuo shook his head. "Kaminari though... That's not surprising. I do have to ask... do you mean literally drag her in? Because she's not the type to go down without a fight...."

Midori's question caused Kazuo's smile to fade slightly. A bit of apprehension came across his face, and he shook his head. "I haven't, no. I wasn't lying yesterday when I said that about my... uh... 'personal' life, if you know what I mean. I mean, I've dated a few women before. But nothing really... substantial happened. We just didn't click. Our sense of humor didn't match, she was faaaaaar too needy, or she just wasn't my type physically. Although we didn't date, Kaminari had the personality I liked... but... she's a little too short... and..." Kazuo bit his lip, then whispered. "Lacking in certain areas..." He was hoping that Kaminari wouldn't hear that.

"She wasn't my type in the end. But now that I've calmed down and matured since then, I think I'd want someone calmer, more mature... and a bit more in control of themselves. And it's pretty hard to find someone like that... How about you? You find anyone to be your soulmate?" Kazuo took a sip of his tea and leaned in to hear her answer.

Midori laughed quite a bit and nodded, "Yes, yes I do mean quite literally." When she asked her question, she kept a smile up, but she knew his feelings toward it. She wanted him to open up more and trust he can talk to her about anything. She was his doctor. If she could know whether he's got a growth on his manhood and keep it a secret, she could keep his more personal life a secret as well. Before he spoke up, she did again. "Put the smile back on. I'm single too, ya know? You can trust me not to go blabbing the same way I trust you not to. I understand in a group, but you don't have to feel shy about it with me. There is absolutely nothing embarrassing about your situation." she explained, trying to make him feel a bit better. "So go on... What were you about to say?"

Midori nodded along in agreement as she took a sip of tea. She leaned back in her chair and smiled wider. "Don't worry, your preferences are safe with me." Midori said. She was having fun, a lot more than she had yesterday. "I agree though. Kaminari's a great woman, but even I would prefer someone taller and with larger womanly assets." Midori just laughed. This conversation was so enjoyable that her smile never dropped. His question caused her to look up to the sky and think. "I've... cared for Daigoro Ito for a long time. After he lost who he lost... I can't tell whether I want to be with him or am trying to just fill a hole he has, even if I shouldn't be. I've been wrestling with the thoughts for a while and I can't figure it out. He's a great guy, stupid, a bit thoughtless, but caring..."

"It's a shame... Now that I've gotten closer than I ever have, I'm not sure whether I really wanted it in the first place. I'm stuck in my own limbo, created by the fates of other people..." Midori sighed and rolled her eyes at herself, "One of these days I'll learn not to try and make everyone happy... It's only fucking me over..." She looked off in deep thought for a moment, but came back to Kazuo once the silence went on a little too long. She stared curiously at him for a moment and then sat up straight again. "You got all the more uncomfortable questions yesterday... Why don't you ask me some? Let's see what you've got. It's just you and I, so that should make it easier, right?" She smiled hopefully.

Midori was single. Wait. Midori was single. He had never thought of that, even though he had just asked such a blatant 'so, you're single' question. What the hell was wrong with him? That realization sparked something. He took a glance down and noticed that... yes, Midori was well-endowed. She had beautiful skin, though that was probably makeup for the most part. Her eyes were stunning, not unlike his own. And her hair seemed soft like she did take care of it. Why hadn't he seen her in this manner. Kazuo continued, a bit more 'free' in speaking now. But mostly, his smile did return.

Midori's answer did wane his smile a bit, but he kept it up mostly. It made him sad that she had apparently poured a lot of work into Ito. Kazuo didn't really have much to say, but he did put a comforting hand on her arm. He was a friend, and he empathized with her. "I'd rather not, honestly... At least not in public. Yesterday, we at least had the privacy of being on Soukyoku Hill. Today... I'd rather not end up spreading embarrassing facts about you at this coffee shop." Kazuo thought for a moment. "How about some time later though? Maybe... over dinner?"

Midori had a certain mindset here. Kazuo was a great friend, one she could open up to and be a little more personal with, sometimes even more so than Kaminari. There was one problem. Kazuo was being smooth and any other woman would have swooned, but Midori sees this man as a noble. To her, he would only  be allowed to be with another noble. It is the common thing of "a prince must marry a princess" and nothing less than that, so the fact that he just asked her out on a date wasn't what went through her mind. However, Midori would love to have dinner with a friend anytime, so she smiled sweetly and nodded, "I'd love that." Unfortunately, she wasn't completely aware of what she agreed to.
