Personality: Yukina, mostly referred to as Nina by her friends, is a young girl with one goal in mind. She wishes to become a Hakuda master. After being rescued from the Rukongai by what she calls a "graceful dance of wind" Nina decided she wanted to move like that. She wanted to gain the control that he had over his own body to allow him to move so fluidly. The same person that inspired her to become a Hakuda master and join the Gotei 13 is the same man she now works for and greatly admires. Though she's never admitted it out loud to anyone but her friend Hanae, Nina has an crush on her Captain, Genpaku Arishima. She hopes to impress him one day and possibly win his heart, though to her that is the dream of someone unworthy and something impossible to accomplish.

Nina has a little obsession with the music from the World of the Living. She brings back CDs whenever she can, it being the only technology that she can use to listen to their music. She tried the MP3 thing, but the coding was messed up in the transfer from their world to this one. She doesn't know why she likes the music so much, but she does. A new CD can be the best gift that someone could give her. Beyond her little music obsession, Nina is a nice person. She just has a one-track-mind that can often cause a few problems. She has habits of forgetting appointments, dates, or even her own Zanpakutō at home. She's so concentrated on being a Hakuda Master that she forgot to train for her shikai. She has every ability to get shikai and possibly even bankai, but hasn't trained for it because Hakuda!

The only thing that Nina doesn't seem to forget about or lose focus on, besides her training, is writing. She's a creative person and writing is where she expresses herself easier. She's actually written a couple of amateur novels, short stories, and even some poetry. She doesn't care what aspect of writing she goes into as long as she can write. Besides music and the written word, other forms of art that she enjoys is drawing and sketching, but she's absolutely horrible at it. Since she sucks, she leaves it to the professionals and admires their art when she can. Nina is an imaginative person, which is why she enjoys the worlds people create through their art and her own. Nina also uses the arts to escape her own world. Music quiets her mind, Hakuda focuses her mind, and writing lets it all out.

With the good traits Nina has, she can easily make friends and most people do like her. However, there are certain traits that some people can't get passed. Nina is an extremely jealous person. She gets immature, childish, and territorial over things that she doesn't even have the right to be. Jealousy turns Nina into an ugly person and she acts this way because she doesn't know any other way to express it. She has trouble controlling outbursts and can offend people close to her when she's feeling this sort of animosity toward them. This was proven when she drove Kaminari away. She spoke her mind a little too clearly, and even if she truly does feel that way, her words were poorly chosen. She didn't think and ended up causing something horrible to happen. Unfortunately, she's not sure how much she cares.

Character Background: For Yukina, remembering her past only hurts because there is nothing she can do about it. She was hoping that dying would have rid her of the horrible memories, but instead lives with them everyday. Her happy demeanor is somewhat an act. She is trying to be a happy person and life here is better, but she still has nightmares of the horror she experienced years ago.

That history will remain a secret forever in the back of Nina's mind. There's more to her than that. Her days within the Rukongai weren't as bad, but they weren't good either. Like many other women who weren't able to find or make their own families, she was alone and an easy target. Weak and helpless, she was caught by a group of ruffians that took no care to the needs of others. She was tossed into a cage, waiting to be bought by some man who had enough to claim her. She sat in the dark cage for a long while. She became weaker and skinnier as time went on. Unlike the other women, her body actually needed food and her captors were not ones to comply with that. They didn't want her strength returning so she could resist anything that came and food was hard to come by anyway.

Before anyone had the chance to buy her up, Nina was rescued by a group of people in black. The base she was being held in was raided by these people of the Gotei 13 on probably the luckiest day of her life. The people who came and saved the women here weren't normally the ones sent out, but a strange shift in paperwork and a sick Captain allowed it to be so. If it wasn't for that, Nina would have never met Genpaku Arishima and had been rescued by Okitsugu instead. It did not take her long to make the decision to join the Gotei 13. She wanted to work for the man who brought her from that horrid place. She was taken care of by the Fourth Division, fed, and brought back to health. Within a couple weeks, Nina joined the Shinigami Academy and began her classes to become one of them.

Nina graduated pretty easily in the normal amount of time it takes a Shinigami to graduate. She excelled in nothing but Hakuda, since that is the style that Genpaku Arishima rescued her with. Upon graduation, Nina requested to be placed in Genpaku's Division. This occurred seven  years ago. Because of her skill, but the lack of shikai, Nina was placed as a fifth seat, but very quickly rose to the fourth seat position. Above her was Hanae, a young woman who she quickly befriended after the two had a sparring match that Hanae actually asked for. Nina defeated Hanae using only Hakuda and impressed her. Since then, the two have been good friends that are practically inseparable. Hanae is the only friend that Nina has and they've gotten close enough for Nina to really open up to her.


Unreleased Abilities:

Hakuda:  This is what Nina has become known for. She's not a prodigy, no. She just trains her ass off daily and concentrates only on this. She's trained so much in Hakuda that she suffers in almost all other aspects of Shinigami fighting styles. She doesn't really care, but she knows others that might.

Hohō: Only to go along with her skill in Hakuda does Nina train with Hohō. She sees the need for the shunpo technique and that is about it, thought she's got some interesting theories about the shadow clones that some people are able to create. Hohō is just an extra tool for Nina to use with Hakuda.

Kidō: Nina knows the very basics of Kidō. She trained in what she had to in order to make sure that she passed her classes in Shino Academy. She succeeded in that and hasn't trained since.

Zanjutsu: Like Kidō, Nina knows the very basics of Zanjutsu and only trained in order to make sure she passed her classes in Shino Academy. Once she succeeded in that, she hasn't trained in it since.

Reiryoku: Nina has not trained herself for shikai, bankai, or really anything else but Hakuda. However, she has every ability to get shikai easily based off her reiryoku amount, possibly even bankai.
