    J. had a list, a long one. It was a list of names. These names were of women. Some were beautiful, some where rich, some where noble, and others were just a waste of breath. This routine started ten years ago. The first was Kayami Horiuchi, the fourth daughter of a lesser noble family. She couldn't read. Then there was Tsugi Ishino, the first daughter of another noble family. She was centuries older than him. Then there was Yukari Miyasaki, Sakura Okamura, Tomoko Yoneda, Reika Iwamoto, Sakue Makino, Chitako Toyama, Kumiyo Ishino, Miyako Ishino, Kahori Matsusa, Karin Ishino, Kayori Hayakawa, Momoyo Yamada, Nanami Kanda, Noriko Sugai, and Ai Kanemoto. These woman all had one thing on their minds: to marry him. None of them knew him, none of them could handle him, and many of them weren't worth his time. He was very picky when deciding what woman he would allow to carry his last name, swear his life and loyalty to, and also bear his children. He preferred to meet them on his own, but no. He was repeatedly sent "potential mates" to choose from over the past decade. The advisers to the Saionji Family were getting restless and wanted J. to marry.

Today was going to mark the eighteenth name on his list. In J's mind, this woman was going to be no different. She was probably the first daughter of a lesser noble family that wanted to bring up their status within the Soul Society by having them marry. If it wasn't that, it would be a woman wanting to 'catch' him when no other woman could. Yes, this day was going to be no different than the others that a woman was brought to him. "How annoying." he muttered as he sat behind his desk, waiting for the woman and her escort to arrive. That's how it was usually done; the woman would be introduced in some former way. She'd walk in, sit down, and speak as sweetly as she could. She'd be dressed in ornate clothing with overly intricate designs and make-up would be caked in so many layers on her face that it was hard to tell if it was an actual woman under there. "You'd think that after an entire decade of trying, they'd cease this useless ritual and leave me to find a wife by myself." he said in frustration as he filled out some paper work. In the room with him was his younger brother, the only other person he trusted in this world. Of course, that was something he'd keep to himself.

"How long until she arrives? Do you know?" J. turned to Kazuo and leaned back in his chair. It was occasions like this that J. was expected to dress up. He was expected to put on his finest clothes and act like a proper gentleman. He had stopped that shit three years ago in hopes of this stopping, but his plan failed. If they were going to keep bringing him victims, he might as well  be comfortable while he judges them and turns them down. "The Head Captain, how is she? I heard you came face to face with Former Head Captain von Zarkonheinz." J. asked, trying to keep small talk. If he kept thinking about the woman that was to be showing up, he'd become more and more frustrated over the entire situation and that was something he did not want. "Nice job." he said after his brother would explain what had happened. Hearing the click of the clock, J. stood up with a low growl and began pacing. "Why must these idiots keep trying to force a woman into my life?" he asked and then pointed toward Kazuo, "You are the one who needs a woman now, not me." It was around times like this that J. would act strangely. His professional demeanor wavered just a bit, but only in front of his younger brother.

Kazuo had to resist replying "what isn't annoying to you, big brother?" Because sometimes, it really seemed that way. Kazuo Saionji looked only a little like his older brother. They had the same color hair, and the shape of the face was similar, although Kazuo had a longer face. But what made people question whether they were actually brothers was their eyes. Kazuo's eyes were the color of a fresh puddle after the rain—bright and cheerful. J's, on the other hand, were the color of the sky after a storm and just before nightfall. They were pretty, but not as open as Kazuo's.

Their eyes said something about each of them. But one thing was for sure. They were brothers when someone dared to try to touch their hair. It was like trying to kidnap the Pope from the Vatican. You just don't. Plus, the wrather incurred might be equal. Kazuo was a little less picky than his brother, but he still didn't like people touching his hair. In fact, J. was one of the few he'd let do anything to it. He'd hope his brother would do the same, but Kazuo was actually too scared to ask.

Kazuo just shrugged as his brother brought up the usual "useless ritual" comment. "No offense, but it's not like you seem like you're even looking. I can't really blame them." Kazuo's eyes were soft, and his smile wide. He wasn't trying to pick sides, but he didn't want J. to be at any more of odds with his advisors. Kazuo was surprised how long many of them stay. "She should be here any minute now. I heard there's a parade or something in the Rukongai, so she could be held up with traffic."

Kazuo wasn't sitting down, and he instead was leaning on a section of wall that had nothing the tall Captain would be able to bump into. "Ah Head-Captain Hatakeyama is doing fine, last I heard. It shouldn't be long until she returns to desk duty. Active duty though... Even the Fourth Division is having some problem giving an estimate on that. And you know she wants an estimate just so she can beat it. That's the type of woman she is." Kazuo sighed and shrugged in respect, admiration, and a little bit of "you can't tell her anything."

"And as for the former Head-Captain..." Kazuo looked a bit away, then turned back. "Speaking freely... He's head over heels in love with Head-Captain Hatakeyama. Only a man in love goes that kind of berserk. I talked him down from beating the living crap out of everyone in the First and Second Division... but damn that guy's scary when he's mad. I think the only time I've been more scared was that time I used your hairbrush on accident." Kazuo shook his head.

A bit more silence passed, and J. eventually stood up and began to pace. And then he said his brother needed to get a woman. Kazuo stood away from the wall. "Pot. Kettle. Black." He shook his head. "I know I need to find a woman. It's not like I don't try. I just don't have a list that takes up two encyclopedias on what I like and don't like in a woman. Plus, I do actually go out and look... You really need to hit a bar or something sometime. It might help you out some."

"That's because I'm not looking." J. replied with a frustrated sigh. He'd look when he was ready, which he assumed would be never. Why was a wife needed in the first place? He was young, even for a Shinigami.  He didn't need to marry right away. He assumed his advisers were more worried about whether he'd die in battle or something like that. Offended. A parade in the Rukongai and the Head Captain was doing well. He was a little surprised to heard Kazuo speak of Tsubine von Zarkonheinz being head over heels for the Head Captain though. His face hardened more than normal. It wasn't at Tsubine being scary when he was mad, but more on the fact that he had actually fallen for someone. J. just could not see Tsubine being in love; it was an odd thought. And with that little woman Kaminari? That was even odder. A few more thoughts about size differences and valid comparisons wandered through J.'s mind before he finally shook his head and sighed, concluding it improbable.

"You actually try to find a woman? Surprising." J. raised an eyebrow at his younger brother, "Why?" J. was completely joking when he said Kazuo needed a woman. Neither of them needed one. A woman was just going to be in the way of their work, training, and duties as Captains within the Gotei. For J, heading the Saionji Family was just an extra thing that a woman would be in the way of. "My list is fine. If I'm going to have a wife and produce an heir, they need to be worth my time as a lover and my son's time as a Mother." J spoke in a very traditional way. It was the man wanting a son to carry on his legacy. The idea of a daughter was almost foreign to him, like it was not supposed to happen. He needed an heir, a leader. He needed a son. He did not plan on having multiple kid's either, so a son needed to come first.  "If a woman cannot handle me, I do not expect her to be able to handle my son." he explained further, "And the duties as my wife are nothing that one should take li-..."

A knock came to the door. "Lord Saionji, they've arrived." a young male voice spoke through the thin paper wall that spoke quite nicely to traditional Japanese construction. "Lead her back." J. replied in his normal tone, though to most he always sounded annoyed or irritated with something. He sighed and returned to his chair, sitting down and leaning back. "Well, here we go again." J. said and looked to Kazuo, motioning for him to go on and leave. There was no reason for him to be here to deal with this. Like all the other's, J. would turn this woman away too, so it's not like there was anything special. If there was, Kazuo would find out later. This was just a routine set-up, nothing more, nothing less. With a single wave to his brother as Kazuo left, J. sat in his chair and returned to his paperwork as silence fell within the room. It was like this for a few moments, peaceful. And J could only wonder how this new woman was going to break that peaceful silence: annoying giggles or obnoxious flirting?

"Sex helps people relax. Or so the magazines say. It's why I always say you need get laid." Kazuo sighed. "But sex means more than just a quick lay for either of us. It really means something. I guess people want you to get married in hopes you'd stop being such a hardass." Kazuo's smile widened. "Of course, nothing like that could change you."

Kazuo listened to his brother explain about his list and how everything was fine. Yeah, sure. Kazuo felt a little sorry for the woman J would end up with. They'd have so much sexual frustration thrust into them... Kazuo didn't really want to picture that. Kazuo was glad when the messenger informed them of her arrival. She wasn't late. That was a plus for Kazuo, and hopefully a plus for J. But right now, he was in interview mode.

Kazuo straightened his hair slightly, and then did the same to his haori. He and J had a matching haori, save for the number of the Division they each held Captaincy over. Kazuo smiled back to his brother and bowed in respect. "Remember the old song... how does it go..." Kazuo's tone went melodic, and he began to sing as he left, waving back to his brother. "When an irresistible force such as you, Meets an old immovable object like me... You can bet just as sure as you live. Something's gotta give, Something's gotta give, Something's gotta give..."

Maaya waited as the messenger informed J. Saionji of her arrival. She was wearing about five or six layers of traditional garb. It was all fancy, but the Ishino family could have afforded better. And normally, they would have. But, of course, this was Maaya. Maaya did not sit, and it was all she could do to keep from her legs falling out from under her. She didn't wear the pounds of makeup her sisters would have been presented with. It was actually a relief to her.

Maaya's eyes stared at the floor for most of her time waiting. She heard someone return, and the messenger informed her that J. would see her. Her eyes sparkled just slightly, and her mouth curved into a small smile. She bowed, and followed the messenger. She was alone. The only help she had was a carriage driven by a single driver. And that was paid out of her own pocket.

Maaya passed Kazuo on her way down the hall, and she bowed to the man. Kazuo let out a small whistle, then bowed in return. Maaya knew that he was a relative of Lord Saionji, and he was tall—a foot taller than her, actually. Maaya had been informed that Lord Saionji was tall... but how tall was he? She was slightly worried on that matter.

When Maaya made it to the door, the messenger opened it for her. She thanked him and stepped through. A few yards from J., Maaya dropped to her knees and bowed to him, not lifting her head. "Lord Saionji." Maaya's voice was slightly deep, but it was as smooth as a flowing creek. As she said that, her head lifted up. "I am sincerely grateful for allowing an audience with me in this manner. I am Maaya Ishino, thirteenth child of the Ishino family." Maaya's first impression of this man was that he was going to be hard to win the heart of.

And those eyes. Those eyes the color of the beautiful dusk sky after a rainfall. They were a little surprising to her. She did her best not to stare. "My family wishes to present me as a potential suitor for your hand in marriage. It would be an unprecedented honor for me... and..." She forgot her lines. She struggled for a moment, trying to remember. "Ah... I can... I mean, I am willing to answer any question you may have about me, Lord Saionji."

Sex was not something that J. would discuss with his younger brother. He kept silent on the matter like he always did. As Kazuo made his way out with a wave and that song, J. raised an eyebrow. He watched his brother sing his way out of the room and sighed. Once the door closed and Kazuo was gone, a small smirk that could almost be compared to a smile made it's way onto J.'s face. Although the two were so different in so many ways, J. was proud to say that Kazuo was his younger brother. For one, the kid was silly and rather entertaining, like right then. The smirk dropped quickly after as J. sat, waiting for the woman. As he waited, he thought of all the questions he knew to ask.

The door opened and the woman stepped inside. He didn't look up to her just yet. Instead, he finished signing three papers and set them to the side. When he looked up, she was on her knees and hadn't spoken just yet. He assumed his silence queued her to speak. She raised her head to him and J. caught his first look at her face. The woman had a gentle face, but there was something about her eyes that caught his attention. It wasn't the color, no. He had seen blue eyes many times before. It was something that lay deep within them, a sort of light he didn't understand. As she introduced herself to him, J. stared rather harshly into her eyes, as if he were sort of challenging her in some way.

"It seems you've forgotten whatever it is you rehearsed on your way here." J. called her out in a manner that would have insulted her intelligence. He was looking down at her like she was less than him already; his eyes spoke that much. He leaned back in his chair and motioned for her to stand. Once she did, he looked her up and down, his eyes judging every curve of her body. Whether the judgment was positive or negative could not be read within his eyes or on his face. "Maaya Ishino, thirteenth daughter of the Ishino Family." he repeated her title back at her, as if he were disappointed, "Interesting. I do not know whether your Family is insulting me, or has very little care for you."

"I did not know the Ishino Family had a thirteenth daughter... You said you were ready to answer any question, correct?" he stared directly at her, giving her only a moment to respond, "Good. Firstly, why did your family send the thirteenth daughter? Are you their final hope of marrying into the Saionji? ...How did you arrive here today and why were you late? ...Who dressed you for today? ...Do you have any particular skills? ...Are you a member of the Gotei 13? ...What would you compare you power level to? ...How are you with children?  ...How many men have you laid in bed with? ...What makes you think you deserve to be my wife?" With each '...' J. kept silent and gave her a few moments to answer.

The first dig at her only made her eyes flicker to the floor for a moment. It hurt, but she could stand a little comment like that. She was... used to it. It wasn't anything too painful. She knew she wasn't exactly the brightest crayon in the box. She nodded in agreement. And when motioned, Maaya stood, and she stood perfectly still. She let her arms out to the side, allowing J. to see more of her body. A physical inspection. She swallowed. "If... need be, Lord Saionji, I can remove more of this clothing to allow you a better look for your judgement."

Maaya's tone was stating that she wouldn't strip for him. Well, that isn't what she wanted, at least. It was saying that she understood these clothes were cumbersome and could interfere with his judgement. "Then do so. Why it was decided to wrap you in decorated cloth to such a degree, I will not understand." Maaya nodded. Three layers of outerwear came off in a silky-smooth way. The clothes were immediately folded, and it was still done quickly. Maaya was left in only a kimono, only a few shades of blue lighter than her eyes. She spun around and gave him ample time to examine her body.

Maaya shook her head. "I can assure you that they are not insulting you or the Saionji name." Her tone was confident in her words. No, they weren't doing this to flick their nose at the Saionji family. This was just another way to get Maaya out of their hair and to break her heart at the same time. And her confidence showed that it was the second option he gave.

And then, the interrogation. "Yes, sir." She nodded, ready to answer. She answered each question as quickly as she could. "I believe that to be the reason, yes, sir. ...I arrived here by carriage paid by my own coin. They were late in arriving at the predetermined time. ...I mostly dressed myself in accordance to what my Father instructed me to wear. ...I am good with cooking, cleaning, and laundry in terms of housework. In terms of physical skills, I am able to defend myself with a sword but I will not claim to be good with one. I am also capable of calligraphy and tea ceremonies. ...No, sir, I am not. I have graduated from the academy, but my family did not wish for me to enter the Gotei Thirteen. ...I am but a novice, but my professors did give me commendations on my skill with Kidō and Kaidō. ...I do not have any actual experience, but I read many motherhood books."

The next question, Maaya looked firmly at him, as she needed to emphasize she was telling the truth. "None, sir. I am a virgin both in bed and in terms of a relationship." The last question was... hard. She kept the same firm look, but the light that shone in the corner of her eyes came forward a little. "Lord Saionji, I will not claim to be a perfect woman. As you so humbly pointed out, I had even faltered on a simple line such as that. But I do have the want to better myself that most women—especially those of other Noble Houses—do not have. I recognize that I have faults, and I wish to better them."

"Some of the more quantifiable qualifications are that I am a pure maiden, something that may be difficult to attain in these times even among the nobles; I have read exactly one-hundred-and-seventy-three books so far on different aspects of motherhood; I know the ways of the Noble Courts, and it would not be something you would have to instruct me much on; I have no diseases nor genetic defects that may be passed onto a child; I do not smoke or drink; and, if need be, I know how to remain an unseen presence if you do not wish to see me or otherwise find my presence unwanted." Maaya was trying her best to answer these questions.

    J. was slightly surprised by the woman's offer. Her layers of clothing were indeed making it difficult to judge her physical form. It was frustrating, but this was how it always was. And by this woman's tone, Maaya was offering to make it easier for him, not show off her body to impress him or anything of that sort. His answer didn't come immediately, but after keeping eye contact with her for a few seconds, he gave it. As she removed the clothing, he watched her closely. Unlike most other women, she folded her clothing and kept it neat. For a noble woman, that was rather off. Normally, they'd call in a servant to have it done for them. This woman did not. Instead, she did things independently and that was something J. could admire. In fact, there was a second thing he could admire: her well endowed figure.

Her answers to the more 'basic' questions were quick and precise. There was no hint of lie, nor was she talking herself up. To the more important questions, she gave the exact details she felt she needed to give. With each answer, J. continued staring strongly at this woman. Her answers were not rehearsed; this was new to him. Her answers were true, he could tell. Beyond that, she was the first woman to speak about herself in a manner that was not stating that they were equal to him. He had an ego, a big one. He knew this, but he also understood it was deserved and sort of needed because of his position. And at this moment, for the first time in a decade, J. Saionji wasn't just going to throw this woman out of his home on the first day. Only one other woman had made it passed this stage.

"It is surprising, and almost unbelievable, that a woman with your appearance has never been bedded." Although his words might not have been completely clear, J. was both calling her a liar and beautiful at once. She was an attractive woman of a noble house, so how has she never been with a man? There was even a passing thought of her wanting to jump straight to a relationship with him as her first one. Was this woman insane? "It is also difficult to believe that a woman of any noble house is experienced in day-to-day house work." he shook his head and closed his eyes as he thought about what to do. He was calling her a liar, even if he did see no lie in her eyes. "Even with these hard to believe claims, I will tell you that you will not be going home tonight." he said and then finally stood from his desk.

    J. Saionji was a very tall man and this woman was quite small. He stepped over to the small blue eyed woman and stared down at her. He towered over her, a trait he actually enjoyed. "Have you been informed of what happens from this point on?" Maaya stood still, and looked up to him. "Lord Saionji, I must admit that I was not informed. But..." Her eyes flickered to the floor, and she inhaled. "If I am to be your wife, I must be prepared to follow whatever order you give me." And then, just then, he might have seen it. The little shadow behind the light in her eyes. That tiny, insurmountable speck known as 'desperation.' He did see it and a silence fell between them for a few moments. He stood there contemplating what that had to mean. With what she told him, J. was curious about her home life.

"Only one woman has been able to pass the interview, until now." He explained after recollecting his thoughts, "We'll see how far you're able to go. I have yet to find a woman that is worth my time, which is why you even have this chance. Until I say otherwise, you will consider this manor your home. I am too busy to be traveling back and forth between my home and yours, and I doubt you have the ability to return here the moment I call for you. I will have a room prepared for your stay. While here, you will be treated as my honored guest and I will analyze your performance to see if a relationship is worth pursuing. Understood?" J. gave her a few moments to process the information and then spoke up again. "Now," he continued and stared intently at her, "Do you have any questions for me?"

"Lord Saionji, I am humbled by your flattery, but I swear on my Name that I have not been bedded." She was not trying to counter his statement of her being a liar. No, that would be rude. She was proving herself to be worthy of him. J. was not just some man. He was a Noble with a capital N. And Maaya was the only of her sisters—save for her eldest—to still have that certain quality about her.

When he told her she would not be going home tonight... Maaya was taken aback. Her eyes widened just slightly. In her mind, considering the conversation just a second ago, he was saying he was going to bed her. And as he stood up, Maaya practically felt a pang of fear. He was tall. But Maaya only kept her eyes on his face. She wasn't breaking that kind of eye contact with him. It would be rude.

She only did once he stepped away from the desk. She got a good look at his body. It was... attractive, and definitely intimidating. She wondered if she could even handle him... but she shook that thought out of her head. It wasn't an "if." Maaya would handle him. She had no other choice in the matter in her mind. That tiny, insurmountable speck known as 'desperation.'

Thankfully, he corrected her mind. J. was not going to bed her, but was telling her that she would be living here. Every statement and assumption he made was correct and understood without need for repetition. Maaya nodded as he asked if she understood. "Yes, sir." And then came her time to question him. She had not been expecting this. She hesitated for a moment, thinking.

And then she nodded. "Yes, Lord Saionji. If you would not mind, I do." She inhaled deeply and closed her eyes before looking back up to him. She repeated the same process as before, although she gave far more time for J. to answer. "Where am I to be sleeping? ...Do you have any allergies I should be aware of? ...Is there a curfew I should expect? ...Would you like for me to wake you in the mornings? And if so, is there a time you would prefer? ...Are there foods that you prefer to have? ...Are there sights or noises you would prefer not to see or hear? ...Will I be allotted servants from your house, or will that be up to my house to provide? ...Are there rooms I am not allowed to enter? ...Are there others whom I should show the same respect I show towards you? ...Are there clothes you would prefer to see me in?" Maaya would take very intense notes in her brain about these things. She had to.

Maaya defending her purity only confirmed she was speaking the truth, no matter how unbelievable. There was one thing she got wrong though, but he would not correct her. He was not flattering her; he was speaking fact. If he were to flatter her, he would use words more complimentary than those he had chosen. Maaya had questions; Good. That was the stage that the other woman had failed and she was immediately sent home. This woman was now superior than every other woman that had been sent to him prior this day. Most who knew him would immediately be impressed with Maaya to have made it to this point. "I do not mind." he said as he stepped over to his desk and sat on the edge of it, "If I did, I would not have given you the choice of asking them. Now, please... ask your questions."

Her questions were different than he had expected. The women around the Seireitei did not ask him things like this. Previous women who were attempting to become his wife did not ask him anything like this. Her questions weren't personal, but of a different nature. And as she began her questioning, he answered in kind. "For tonight, in my quarters. Your room should be ready by tomorrow afternoon." he told her, "I did not expect you to get this far, or I would have had your room ready prior to our meeting... No, you have no actual cerfew, but returning to the manor in the middle of the night is quite rude..." This next question through him off enough that he glanced away for a moment and had to actually think about it. Did he want her to wake him up? That was something he had not thought of.

"Yes, if you wake before me you can wake me up and we shall eat breakfast together." he said to her with a soft nod, "No specified time is preferred, just when and if you wake before I do... I usually eat what the cooks put in front of me; I have not paid enough attention to have a favorite... I'd prefer not to see any of your feminine underwear laying around along the floor. With how neat you've acted up until now..." he motioned toward her folded clothes, "I doubt that will be a problem... You will need nothing from your home. As I said before, while you are here, you will be treated as my honored guest. Your needs will be taken care of by my Family's servants and you will have a personal maid aid you through out the day. She will be on call from the time you wake until you choose to go to bed."

"Any rooms that you will not be allowed to enter are marked as such. Signs saying 'Division Six Members Only' or 'Saionji Family Only' are the only areas you will have to worry about." he explained and then remembered something, "Ah, be careful of the garden. My gardener Kai Yukimura... He has an issue with people messing with his flowers. He's quite protective of it. No walking on the grass, picking flowers, or anything like that... Others that you should respect in the same manner as me? My advisers. Their uniforms are marked as such. They will expect you to bow as they pass by and speak to them in the same mannerisms that you speak with me..." Another question that threw him off. Were there specific clothes he wanted her in? He shook his head, "Choose whatever makes you comfortable."

"Over our time together, I expect to get to know you quite well. I do not consider a woman for a wife without this in mind." he stepped over to her once again and placed a hand under her chin to make her look at him. He examined her closely. He took note of the softness of her hair, that strange hopeful light in her eyes, the clarity of her skin, and took no shame in glancing toward her chest. He was pleasantly surprised with this one. Why couldn't she have shown up five years ago? Things might have been so much easier for J. "I have two more questions for you, and I expect a detailed answer... Understood?" he stared at her and waited for her answer before asking his question, "Explain to me why you think so little of yourself? And why are you acting as if you were here to be my servant?"

    Maaya.
    Blushed.
She would be... sharing a room with J. already? Her heart, head, and other areas all returned to her previous thoughts. She shifted slightly and swallowed. She would have further questions on that subject, but that would best wait until it was time for them to sleep. It was not at all what she expected. It was... more. Frankly, it was all she could do to keep from smiling. She was actually a little excited for that.

Maaya nodded as he answered each question. Some things, she'd repeat his answer on to make sure she'd get the important parts. Although he did not mention him, Maaya assumed she was to show the same respect to the young man she met in the hallway as well. She would rather err on the side of caution. And if she erred, she did expect to get punished. And she'd rather get punished for showing too much respect over too little.

Maaya's lips did curve into a tight, motherly, gentle smile as he finished. She bowed slightly in acknowledgement. "Lord Saionji, if there is anything I may do for you to know me better, please inform me." She would tell him her life story with every detail she could remember if need be. She'd write it out and abridge it too. There was a reason she had said what she said about being bedded earlier.

When he touched her, Maaya's body tensed up. Her breathing went rapid for a moment, but she quickly controlled herself. But all the during, she stared right at him. She let him see as much of her as she could have visible. And most of all, she did not shake. She was scared, intimidated even, but she did not shake. She stood firm and let him examine her. And then... he asked a tough question. "Lord Saionji... if I am to answer your questions, I have but one request. I would like for this not to get back to my family." J. narrowed his eyes in suspicion at Maaya. He felt his previous thoughts being confirmed with that request, but wanted to hear it from her, "It will stay between you and I, Maaya."

Maaya then inhaled, and exhaled a breath twice as large. "I am, as you know, the thirteenth child of the Ishino family. I am also the last child of my Mother and Father. My birth brought upon complications for my Mother, and she was rendered unable to birth another. You do not know of my existence because my Mother and Father both keep me away from public view. I also have my own health to blame, as I fall ill every time there is to be a gathering at our manor. I am not allowed personal servants, and may only ask certain house servants for assistance with matters."

Maaya swallowed again. "I believe my Mother and Father are ashamed of me. I do not know why they are. There is no proper way to ask them, and even then, it is hard to get an audience with them even for their own daughter. When you spoke of your confusion on if my family was insulting you or did not think highly of me, I knew the answer already then. They would not insult you, but I do know that Mother and Father do not seem to care for me."

That smile was the first she had given since she walked in the door. He understood his lack of smiling, but had never seen that in a young woman and he wasn't sure whether he liked it or not. As the conversation continued, J. listened closely to Maaya's story, what she had made of her own life. From what he could tell, her parents blamed her for the Mother's infertility. He really wanted to smack someone. Did they not blame the mass amount of offspring that woman had spat out before bringing Maaya into the world? Stupidity. He fought the strong urge to roll his eyes at this. He didn't want Maaya to think that it was at her. He may have been a stoic bastard, but he wasn't heartles. As she finished her story, J. took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, staring intently down at Maaya.

"Is your health a factor I will have to worry about?" J. asked as if he hadn't heard anything else she had said. It would seem that way, but it wasn't true. He was contemplating what she had told him and wondered whether he should make a quick trip down to the Ishino's residence for a unplanned meeting. "Come with me." he motioned for her to follow and stepped out of his study. If she stood too far back, he'd stop walking and guide her up to walking closer to his side. She wasn't a servant and she would have to get that through her head sooner or later. As they walked, he pointed out different things to her, giving her a quick tour of the place. It was quite large, so she'd have to get used to the layout of the manor. He continued on until the two finally came to his bedroom.

"This is where you will sleep tonight; it is my bedroom." he opened the door and allowed her to step in first, "I assume you did not bring any clothes with you? If not, that is fine. I will have some brought in for you. If your home life is any like you have described, I'd rather you not deal with that while you are with me. Consider it a minor vacation." He looked down to her, showing that he had indeed listened before and was showing her some pity. "The room next door will be yours." he said pointing toward another door just a few feet down the hall. He pushed a button on the door on the inside of his room and waited. A few seconds later, a young man rushed over and bowed to both of them. "I need that room prepped for Lady Ishino; Have it done by tomorrow afternoon." he ordered.

The young man agreed, bowed again, and hurried off, closing the door behind him. J turned to Maaya and stared at her for a moment. He wasn't entirely sure what to do now. Usually, when he had nothing to do, he'd have some tea and relax. He might read a book, or something along those lines, but right now he wasn't sure. He had never gotten this far before, so how was he to treat a woman? The first thing that came to his mind was to ask her more questions about herself, though he knew to get to know her he'd have to just be around her. This was going to be difficult. "Since you've never been with a man," he spoke up suddenly, implying a few too many things because of their location, "... is there anything in particular you've ever wanted to do to get to know one? I feel a woman who claims to read many books on motherhood has likely thought long and hard about the type of man she wants."

Maaya took note that all he spoke of was her health. She didn't know what it meant. Maybe he didn't care. Or maybe he didn't know how to react. It was... understandable. She might have even explained something wrong. "No, sir, it is not. When the 'spells' occur, I am only bedridden with fever for a few nights. And even so, such a minor thing will not keep me from being by your side, Lord Saionji." Maaya may still speak of herself as a subservient wife, but that last statement had a care only someone who was already or really wanted to be a mother could have.

Maaya followed him, and he only he to slow down once for her to get the message. She had started off just far enough back for her to get a good view of his back, the one part of him she wasn't able to see well before. It was wide and strong. It carried things she could not even comprehend. And yet, there was a vast emptiness about it. It was a giant stone wall, but there was no decor on it. It was lonely.

Maaya also had tried to grab her clothing from the floor, but J. had promptly stopped her from doing so. Along the tour, Maaya made the best notes she could of the place. It was spectacular. She was genuinely amazed. It was far more open-air than the Ishino manor. The Ishino manor was more akin to a fortress over a manor, as most of it was built underground due to "artistic architecture" that made up the roof.

When they came to the bedroom, Maaya swallowed again. The door slid open, and it was large. Very large. She hesitated a moment before stepping in. She shook her head in response to a question about clothing, and then her eyes darted back up to him. He... had listened? She blinked, her softness replacing the sudden surprise on her face. Before the messenger arrived, Maaya turned to J. She hesitated, and looked up to him, blushing a little. "Lord Saionji... I must ask... are we to be sharing the same bed?"

"Do you wish to sleep on the floor?" Maaya's head tilted a bit in confusion. What was he saying? "Ah, no sir, I..." And then, it seemed like it clicked. "Understood." She nodded and bowed slightly. "The bed is large, I will not invade your space. I'm sure you'll be comfortable." Maaya's blush continued on. "And if I invade your space or am otherwise an unsuitable sleeping partner, please wake me and I will move to the floor." "I doubt that will be necessary, but alright."

The aide arrived, bowed, and scurried off just as quickly as he arrived. Maaya gazed back to the large bed and swallowed. This would be the first time she slept with a man. She gripped the side of her kimono with anxiety. When J. spoke back up, Maaya's body perked up in surprise and she turned back to him. Her heart was racing with the implications he was giving. "I am not sure how to answer your question, Lord Saionji. But I can give you an answer to your statement."

"I have... kept myself open-minded for the most part. There are a few traits that any man should have, and I believe you have those traits, Lord Saionji. I wish for a man who would care for his child—or children, if he so desires. But I would also like for him to be able to scold his child in ways I would be afraid to. Someone who could, and would, protect his child is also preferred. And you have not given me any reason to believe you are a man who would not do all of that, Lord Saionji."

Over the next few hours, the two got to know one another. Their conversations would have gone on for as long as either of them had questions. Saionji's answers were mostly short, but given the exact amount of detail needed to allow Maaya to understand. She learned about his parents, basic details of his younger years, when he became a Captain, his training methods (which probably would have startled her), his list of the 'perfect' woman, and most importantly his brother Kazuo. There was a certain sense of pride that Saionji let show when speaking of Kazuo as well, not one that he showed about anything but his own accomplishments. He also explained certain strict beliefs he had, such as responsibility for your own actions, harsh punishment, and the respect he will give toward anyone who has chosen to better himself. And in this case, he gladly used what she had previously stated as a prime example.

Maaya, on the other hand, had spilled what little there was to know about herself earlier. She took note of everything J. said, even the tone he had when he spoke of Kazuo. Maaya's answers were more full than J.'s. Maaya's answers didn't give any room for misunderstanding. She spoke of how she liked to cook, and of her time in the academy. J. learned more of the Ishino family, and she spoke fondly of her siblings. J. would learn that she had learned how to do her own laundry thanks to a servant who pitied her and how she was treated. He also learned that she still has the asauchi from her academy days, and she had brought it with her, but it was in the care of one of the greeters for the Saionji. But most importantly, J. learned that Maaya loved the moon. Night time and the colors that came with it were amazing to her, and she found it something of beauty that was hard to come up with a name for.

When it came time for bed, Maaya did hesitate. It took J. telling her to join him before she finally did. Her pyjamas were traditional and not revealing unless she loosened some of the strings. But she didn't. If he wanted her to, she would in a heartbeat. Maaya slept on what was practically the edge of the bed, and she did not move. She didn't really dream either. Her mind was too wound up. But while she slept, her expression softened. She was unrestrained by her bindings as the thirteenth child at that time.

Maaya woke, and her eyes fluttered open. She was slightly confused for a moment, and then she remembered where she was. She leaned up... and J. was gone. And one of her strings—that around her ample bosom—was loose. She was... confused and worried. She looked around. "L-lord Saionji?" Maaya stood up, her left hand over her heart and her right supporting her left's wrist. She looked around, repeating his name. But he didn't seem to answer. This was worrying, but... Maaya inhaled, and then decided to get her mind off of it. She began to make the bed, and she did her best to take extra good care of J.'s side. Once she was done, if he had not returned, Maaya would sit on the floor and await J.'s return.

The night was not one that Saionji would have called bad, but it wasn't great. He was able to get to know Maaya a bit more, taking mental notes of details he thought important. As the day ended and the time to sleep had arrived, he could tell Maaya was nervous. He did not understand why. He did not bite, he was not a bed hog, and she had been invited. Was there something he was missing? At that a moment, a word echoed in his mind with the voice of his younger brother, "Sex". Shit. Saionji almost smacked himself. Was this forward? Why was she going along with it? Was the desperation he had seen in her eyes before something that caused this? Oh well. He pushed those thoughts from him mind rather quickly and continued getting ready for bed.

Saionji wore a white robe with black pajama pants to bed. Unlike many people around, Saionji had no problem taking in the comforts of the modern world, whether of eastern or western culture. He found that the pajama pants men wore in the wester countries were much better than eastern sleep wear. He slid into bed and laid comfortably on his side. The two laid in silence and Maaya fell asleep first. He turned to watch her for a few moments, wondering whether she was what she seemed. With a final relaxed sigh, Saionji turned his back to the woman in his bed to lay on his side and fell asleep. The night was quiet and still. Saionji did not dream, or if he did, he was not going to wake with them in his memory. And as the sun raised and shined into the room, he woke.

Maaya was still asleep, as expected. Not everyone woke up at the crack of dawn like he did. He slid out of bed quietly to not wake her and walked through a pair of doors. He closed them behind him, walked down a short path, and then into a bathroom. Here, Saionji took his morning shower. When he finished, he had a new robe and pants waiting for him and his other clothes had been taken for laundry. He got dressed, but as he was about to tie the robe, he glanced to the mirror and let the robe fall open. He grabbed a towel and walked back to his room while drying his hair. Walking back, he could hear his name being called and raised an eyebrow. As he stepped into his room to see why he was needed, he looked over to see Maaya had decided to start making the bed.

"That's not your job, Maaya." he said as he stepped up behind her, "I pay my servants to do that for me." Saionji stood there with the robe open, his tone chest still glistening with the few drops of water that he had intentionally not dried off. Saionji was strict, stoic, and hard to read. He was a hard ass, but he had an ego. He was also a man who wanted to test every bit of this woman as he could. Right now, he wanted to know exactly how attractive she thought he was. "You did not shower before bed last night, so you will take one this morning." he asked as he tossed the wet towel onto the bed and removed the robe from his shoulders, "Clothes will be set out for you when you are finished. I will wait for you here and then I wish to introduce you to my brother."

If she needed help remembering where the shower was, he would lead her. As she showered, he would wait in his room and read a book. A maid entered the room and asked about breakfast, so Saionji told her to have it ready in thirty minutes; the introductions should be done by then. Once Maaya returned, she should have been dressed in a finely made kimono colored blue and turquoise, but lined with intricate silver designs. When seeing her, Saionji kept his usual demeanor, but he definitely thought she looked beautiful. "Come." was all he said as he stepped out of the room and waited for her to walk by his side. If she slowed to walk behind him again, he would once again motion for her to walk next to him and then lead her to where Kazuo would be. "Brother, I wish to introduce you to someone."

Maaya fell onto the bed when J. spoke. Her heart lept into her throat, and she turned around, facing him. Her jaw went slack, and her eyes were fixated on him. Not any particular part of him, but just him. She swallowed hard. She gripped the sheets tightly, like someone getting some really good sex would. Yeah, she had a ladyboner right now. Her breathing sped up, and the shadow in her eyes changed from desperation into hunger.

"I... I am sorry, Lord Saionji. It-it-it was a nervous ha-habit. You-you weren't there, and I needed to keep... keep my mind from worrying too much." Maaya, at this moment, wanted to use her body to dry off every bead of water from that shower. But after last night, it was obvious that was not something he thought of. But damn was he hot. And damn did she want him even more now.

After a few more moments of being hot and bothered, Maaya began to control her breathing. She stood up, catching the towel and gently laying it on the bed in a section she did not make yet. And she did not do anything about the loosened string. "I... will go take my shower now then, Lord Saionji." Maaya hurriedly walked to the bathroom, and took a wrong turn but quickly realized her mistake.

Maaya took a moment in the shower to simply relax and calm down. "Keep yourself together, Maaya..." she whispered to herself. She took pride in cleaning up, and washed every part of her body twice. Maaya was about to dress herself when a maid entered and helped Maaya. It was a lot quicker when someone helped you with the back pieces of a Kimono. Maaya thanked the maid and then put on a very light coating of makeup.

Maaya returned, and bowed to J. He motioned for her to follow, and she did. This time, she kept up with his pace. It was hard with her short legs, but she did it anyway. She bowed to anyone who required bowing, and tried not to make too much eye contact. She was also about two inches closer to J than she was day before when she walked.

When they made it to the room, Kazuo stood up. The room was large and unfurnished for the most part. There was a small table with pillows on the floor surrounding it and a few chairs to one side. This was where J and Kazuo normally met for breakfast. Kazuo lightly bowed to his older brother, and his eyes... met Maaya. He bowed to her, and she did the same, although more deeply. Kazuo looked to J. "Someone actually made it through the first night."

Kazuo walked over to Maaya, knelt down, and kissed her hand before standing up. Maaya blushed at the gesture. "I'm Kazuo Saionji, and J's younger brother. It is a pleasure to meet you." "I am Maaya Ishino, thirteenth child of the Ishino family. And the pleasure is all mine, Master Kazuo." Kazuo blinked. That was a weird title.

Kazuo looked to his brother. "Will she be joining us for breakfast?" After hearing a yes, Kazuo then motioned for her to sit down. "Good. I'd like to get to know the one woman who has made it this far." Maaya blinked and blushed. What was he talking about? Did the other woman not even make it through the night? What was she to expect now? This worried her. Maaya looked up to J for permission to enter.

Maaya's reaction was rather pleasing. He noticed every change in her, from her breathing, clenching the sheets, and those blue eyes of her widening. She was fixated on him. There was a small part of Saionji that wanted to lean in and tease her a bit, but that would be dishonorable.  He was not that kind of man. Leading a woman in that manner was too much if you weren't going to give what you were promising. "Maaya, you do not need to worry about me. In the mornings, I will shower, or I will train and then shower." he explained calmly to her, "And there is no need for you to be nervous here; you're safe and no one will bother you." Saionji was not sure why she was so nervous. He wanted to straight out ask her, but he felt that might be digging a little too deep.

As she went off to take her shower, Saionji noticed that her upper area was a bit loose. He could see more of her bust than he had originally and was rather curious about what else that cloth covered. This woman had a very nice body on her, much better than the overly-endowed boar breasts that had previously been tossed at him. One of those, if he remembered right, was actually one of Maaya's sister. He shuddered at the thought. Once they were both ready, he lead her to the sitting room that he and his brother usually met for breakfast. Without verbal queue's, Saionji presented Maaya to Kazuo as if she were some sort of prize, and a woman who got this far actually was. "Yes, she made it through the night. I don't see her leaving here any time soon. She's... intriguing."

That compliment was one that Saionji actually eyed Maaya for to show that he meant it. She fascinated him like no woman could. As the two introduced themselves to each other, Saionji stood back and watched before they went to eat. Saionji did not look to her when Maaya looked to him. Instead, he placed a hand on her back and guided her over to her seat. Soon, the two of them would have to have a talk about this 'servant woman' demeanor she kept on. He liked it and preferred it, but some things made him think the Ishino treated her worse than he expected. Once Maaya took her seat, Saionji sat down right next to her and the three would wait for the food to be brought in. There were small bits of talk about their sleep before Saionji explained a few things about Maaya.

"You know how I ask all the same questions to the women that show up here?" Saionji brought up the conversation, knowing Kazuo was curious, "She answered them in ways I had never heard. Most of the noble women try to talk themselves up, but this one did the exact opposite. There was no lie in her eyes. Slightly bothersome." Saionji spoke to his brother in a different way. He was calmer and more relaxed. As Saionji talked, the waiters brought in the food and set a plate in front of each of them. There were 'extras' placed around the table if people wanted seconds. Saionji helped himself to three eggs, brown rice, and some toast. "Huh... That's odd. She might be a once-in-a-lifetime chance. The fact it bothers you just means it caught you off-guard." Saionji dull-faced at his brother.

"She's an honest women; if you have anything to ask, now is a good time."

Maaya's shoulders tucked in as he complimented her in front of Kazuo. She blushed a bit too. And then, she tensed up when J touched her back. As she was guided towards her seat, she sat in the middle of them. They practically made a "U" with how they were arranged. Her hands rested in her lap, crossed over one another. Maaya stayed silent as J and Kazuo spoke about their sleep, and she was afraid to speak up.

Kazuo was curious though. This woman was able to keep J's attention enough to keep her like this. And the more he saw how she sat, the more he could tell why. She was so cautious and respectful... Hell, she probably flaunted his ego by being so subservient. Damn she was perfect for J. "You know how I ask all the same questions to the women that show up here?" J brought up the conversation, knowing Kazuo was curious, "She answered them in ways I had never heard. Most of the noble women try to talk themselves up, but this one did the exact opposite. There was no lie in her eyes. Slightly bothersome."

As J talked, the waiters brought in the food and set a plate in front of each of them. There were 'extras' placed around the table if people wanted seconds. J helped himself to three eggs, brown rice, and some toast. Maaya hesitated and got a single piece of toast, a single egg, and about half an orange. Kazuo's breakfast was more protein-rich than the others with some toast, sausage, and a whole orange. "Huh... That's odd. She might be a once-in-a-lifetime chance. The fact it bothers you just means it caught you off-guard."

As his brother gave him a weird look, Kazuo just smiled. He was right. And he knew it. Kazuo took his brother up on his offer and asked Maaya some questions. They were simple ones, like how many siblings she had—eight sisters and four brothers. He asked what her favorite color was—wisteria purple. And there was just general small talk between them. Maaya answered every question punctually, and she never once touched her food while she was being asked questions. Kazuo noticed this, and nodded. "Why don't we finish eating? I don't mean to keep you from finishing your first breakfast here."

Maaya nodded and she picked up an orange slice first. She nibbled on it slowly until it was gone. As she finished, she wiped her face off. The rest of her food was eaten is an equally mousy, almost-shy way. "Lord Saionji..." Maaya called out to J. "Is there any business you would like for me to tend to today?" Maaya had no idea how to ask "so what is it you want me to do?" She didn't know what was supposed to happen at this point.

Kazuo took a sip of hot tea to keep himself from making a comment that would get him a glare from J. This was already thin ice, and Kazuo liked Maaya. J could definitely use a secretary like her. ...That's right. "Hey, J. You complain about not having a secretary that can file like you want to. Why not see how she works? I don't see any harm in it."

This woman catered to his ego in many ways. Constantly having to give her permission was both a bother and a preferrence. She came in here expecting to be a servant wife if she were chosen; Saionji respected that and was okay with it as well. He did not need some uptight woman that would boss around his servants more than he did. He did not want a slave driver. He did not want a woman that was aggressive or bossy. These types of women would be thrown out into the mud just to send a message to the rest. Maaya, on the other hand, was the type of woman that he could see staying in his life. Her quiet, gentle, and submissive nature was something he liked. Submissive was fine, yes, but for him. Being submissive toward his guests, servants, and even his brother was not what he wanted. If she was going to stick around, that was something he'd have to change about her.

Kazuo and Maaya talked while J. sat in silence during his meal. While he ate, he allowed them to converse as if he was not even here. It wasn't until Kazuo said something about her not eatnig that J. took a glance toward Maaya. That was interesting. Even servants would speak between bites. He was the first that had finished his meal. No distractions or conversations allowed that; he liked it that way. He was taking a drink of his tea when Maaya had finished and turned to him for her orders. He eyed her for a few moments before sitting back in his chair, "Hm." He was thinking on what he wanted her to do. What exactly did a 'potential mate' do in the first place? He couldn't just let her sit around the house bored out of her mind. That would just not do. While he was thinking, Kazuo reminded him of something. It wasn't a bad idea, but was it right to put her in that sort of position? He wasn't her boss.

"Is that something you'd be comfortable doing?" J. looked to Maaya to confirm when a slightly annoyed look came on his face, "Kazuo is correct; I've needed a good secretary. The last three were hired by the advisers and I swear their intentions were only to seduce me." He sighed and shook his head. He looked to Kazuo and crossed his arms. "Do you ever get any pests like that?" he asked, waited for an answer, and then continued, "The last one had no skills as a secretary at all. She could not use a computer and I still question whether she new the alphabet." This was an exaggeration. The woman was a horribly skilled secretary, but she wasn't stupid. She was just another woman who volunteered to try and catch the eye of J. Saionji. She failed, like all the rest. After getting Maaya's answer, J.'s thoughts trailed off a bit. After a moment of thought, he stood up and dusted himself off.

"Come. Let's go retrieve your Asauchi. It should not be in anyone else's care." he said and moved to lead her out of the room. If Kazuo was following, cool. The more the merrier, but if he was not, before J. left the room, he would turn to his brother and nod respectful, following by a light-hearted wave. He walked with purpose through the halls of the Saionji Manor. He was not aware of her having to hurry to keep up because of how tall he was. Because no one ever asked him to slow down, he was used to people keeping up. It was habit. Once he arrived at the front gate, he walked in to the storage room and beckoned her to follow. As she entered, a guard would attempt to stop her, "I apologize miss, but this area is off limits. I cannot allow you to pass." Saionji said nothing. In fact, he watched to see how she reacted in the situation, giving her 'go ahead' look. The guard had not seen him there.

Kazuo was glad that J offered that to her. He looked to Maaya, who was practically awe-struck. Her eyes were wider than before. She inhaled and began to think. She had no formal training in that sort of thing. She gripped her hand, and Kazuo smiled. "Not like you do. Like I said yesterday, they're angling for that for you. They don't have to worry about me." He winked and chuckled. Maaya did not even hear what Kazuo had said. She was still too... excited.

That same gentle smile from before came up, and she nodded once. "Yes, Lord Saionji, I would be honored to be your secretary." Maaya would be happy to do that. She'd listen to how he wanted things done, and she'd do them without error. Well, she'd try to. And she'd try hard.

Maaya stood up when J said they were going to retrieve her sword. Kazuo did as well. "This is where I will be taking my leave. I've got an early meeting today. New recruits and whatnot. I have to go and prove that even though I'm the 'nicer' Captain Saionji, it doesn't mean I'm not strict." An evil grin crept on his face, and J would know that Kazuo was just going to push his new guys hard. They both had a respect for diligence.

Maaya bowed to Kazuo as he left, and Kazuo did the same. Kazuo waved as he left, and then called out "Good luck!" However, it was not clear which of them it was going towards. Maaya blinked, and then followed J. It was not hard to keep up with him, but it was tiring in long clothing like the kimono she wore. As they reached the storeroom, Maaya took a moment to gaze out through the front gate, and during that time, a guard had gotten between her and J. "I apologize miss, but this area is off limits. I cannot allow you to pass."

Maaya didn't know what to say. And then she decided to try to put a bit of confidence in her words. She inhaled. "Sir, I, Maaya Ishino of the Ishino family, am here as an honored guest of the Lord of this manor. He is in the storage room to retrieve an item confiscated from me upon my arrival. He has beckoned for me to follow him, and I would like not to disappoint him." She pointed towards the storage room. "If you do not believe me, I believe your Lord's word would carry more weight than my own." She was not being demanding, but she did have a slight confidence. J had given her that when he said she could be his secretary.

If there was something that Saionji did not like, it was when someone did not know their place. He was okay if someone thought they were better than they were; that often spoke of confidence. Arrogance, he would shut down very quickly. On the other hand, Saionji did not like it if someone thought less of themselves than they should. Right now, Maaya was his honored guest. She needed to understand that. The fact that he allowed her in the same bed as him meant something huge. Anyone in this house who knew her face and where she stood with J. Saionji, would know that she was one to be treated like a princess. And it seemed that Maaya was slowly learning this place of hers when one of his guards had stepped between her and her right to enter the storage room behind Saionji.

When J. was pointed out to be standing behind the guard, the man looked back and blinked in surprise a couple times. "This is Lady Ishino." was all J. had to see before the man straightened up and bowed politely to her. "I apologize greatly, milady." he said as he kept himself bowing, "Please forgive my rudeness." He backed away while still bowing and then returned to his station quickly. Once he was gone, J. waited for Maaya to step in and then motioned around the room. "Find it." he told her and then stepped off to the side. There were quite a few Zanpakutō in here. Anyone who visited the grounds and wasn't a member of J's squad has to leave it here. Maaya may not have been a member of J.'s squad, but she would now have the rights that any Saionji below him and his brother would.

Once she found what they were looking for, he met her outside of the storage room. "Why are you excited to be a secretary?" he asked her as he began leading her back inside. He was leading her back toward his office, the same room they had first met in. Once they got there, he pointed to a large stack of paperwork, a stack of folders, and a file cabinet, "Those need to be organized. I don't have time to both sign the papers and file them. Usually I would ask my Lieutenant, but they're out on mission right now and it's not their job anyway." He stepped back toward the door and glanced back to her, "Do not be afraid to ask for help. I will be out for a couple of hours introducing myself to a few new Division members. I should return around lunch; Then, I will have something for you." And so he left...

Maaya stood there, not wanting to force her way past the guard. The guard turned around to see J standing there. Maaya hadn't even seen him. She tensed up slightly, and the guard bowed apologetically. Maaya shook her head as he apologized. "It would have been rude had you known who I was. I believe the term is ignorance." Maaya smiled like a mother would and followed J into the storage room.

There were many Zanpakutō in the room. But hers was among the few that was not in a rack to the side, stored vertically like how most police departments store long rifles and shotguns. Maaya's was on a rack, stored horizontally. It was being treated with respect, and she could tell. She caught eye of it almost immediately, and picked up the sword. She examined the blade and determined it was indeed her asauchi, and immediately resheathed it. But she didn't need to look at it. She could tell by the feel of it that it was hers. But she wanted to see the blade for herself.

Maaya turned to J while still holding the sheathed sword. "Would you object to me wearing it it around?" He seemed to eye the sword a bit and then looked back to her, "Yes, you can wear it. Keep it near you at all times." Maaya nodded and slipped the white katana into her obi. "I shall. Thank you for allowing me a small favor such as that." She bowed slightly again.

As they walked back inside, he asked why she was excited to be his secretary. Maaya blushed and turned her head away from him for a moment. A different smile than the one before was on her face. "If... I am to speak freely, Lord Saionji... I... am glad to be of service to you. And..." Maaya looked back up to him. Her smile was shy, but not motherly. It was gentle, but not like the one before. It was a womanly smile. "It allows me to be close to you." She blushed harder and turned away.

Maaya noted everything she'd need to know about the office and what she'd be doing. She nodded to everything he said. At the end, Maaya bowed deeply. "It will be done by the time you return, Lord Saionji." She looked up and gave him the same womanly smile as before. "Please, sir, have a good day." As he left, Maaya immediately went to work. She never stopped smiling gently while she did.

Maaya worked hard. Her first trouble was understanding the filing system. It took her two tries to get it down, and she was able to speed it up after that. She ended up with three paper cuts, but she made sure there were no bloodstains on the papers. She left a few papers unsorted, and placed them neatly on his desk. They seemed to be missing a signature in one area. And again, she would rather err on the side of caution. As she finished, Maaya inhaled. She took a good whiff of the smell of J's office. It was... nice. She would enjoy that smell. As J returned, Maaya bowed deeply. "Welcome back, Lord Saionji."

    J. observed Maaya closely while she answered his question. She was blushing, interesting. No, not just interesting. That was down right cute and J. knew that. He stopped at the office door and just stared at her for a moment. The blush was still there, so he reached out toward her. He placed his index finger against her forehead and ran it down about an inch before tapping her lightly on the nose. He did not know why he did this; he just did. It was actually his way of expressing that he thought what she just did was cute enough to receive a response. Saying nothing about it, he stepped into the office and explained what needed to be done. Once he finished that, he made his way toward his squad to get the meetings over and done with. After that, he vanished for a while and so did a few of his servants. Around noon, Saionji returned home and made his way to his office to see the progress made.

    J. stepped into his office to see that everything was done. He looked to the left, right, and at the desk. "Thank you." was Maaya's only reply to welcome him back. He stepped over to the file cabinet and opened up the top drawer. He remembered one of the papers that he had recently signed and went to pull it out. The fact that he found it immediately was impressive. He put it back and closed the file cabinet, noticing the few things on the desk. "What are these?" he asked, pointing to the papers that had not been filed like the others. "These appeared to need a signature. There was a large blank line that caught my eye... and I left them out so they would not be sorted in with completed paperwork in the chance they weren't. If they are complete, I will file them immediately." He sifted through them and noticed the mistakes as well. He quickly signed them all and placed them to the side of the desk.

"They can be dealt with later. For now, come with me." he stepped toward the door and began leading  her through the manor again. The way they were taking would be familiar because they were heading in the direction of his bedroom. They didn't stop there though. Instead, they stopped at a door he had pointed out the night before. It was the room that was going to be hers for her stay. He stepped to the side and opened the door, motioning for her to go in first. "I had a few of my servants aid me in picking out furniture, bedding, and clothes. It keeps with the decor of the house, but should fit the style of a woman better than my bedroom does." The room was beautifully decorated with simple, but elegant designs. The colors were all lighter, keeping with white, blue, teal, and other shades of blue. In the closet, there was already a full wardrobe for her. "I do hope the room is satisfactory."

Maaya blinked, blushed, and tensed up at his touch. His fingers felt so dreamy. They were rough, but still smooth. They had been scarred over by drawing a sword repeatedly, but that only gave them texture. And that texture... Maaya noticed her breathing starting to up itself again, and she immediately calmed down. Damn she had it bad for him. But when she poked on the nose, she winced and let out a mousy whimper of surprise.

That little gesture was what kept her smiling the entire time as she worked. She did enjoy her work, even through the frustration of having to redo her work twice. It was working for him. Damn it was a good feeling. He was making her feel... special. That's what this was all boiling down to. She was sent on a suicide mission, one with no hope of success in order to break her spirit. And she was actually succeeding.

Maaya was feeling like a person thanks to J. And it also helped that J was damn handsome, among other things. She was hoping for many reasons that she would win his heart. J returned, and Maaya welcomed him back. She had finished sorting about fifteen minutes before he arrived, and so she was sitting in a guest chair on one side of the wall.

And then he asked for Maaya to follow him. She did, as she did remember he said he'd have something for her. What could it be? She did not want anything in particular in her mind. She just wanted to see what it was. She wanted to see what gift he'd have for her. And they got to the room she was to be staying in, and she was motioned in.

Frankly, it was beautiful. The teals, blues, and whites all adorned the walls in a manner that expressed her. She could tell this was done painstakingly well. Her eyes glimmered as she held back tears. This was done for her. Just for her. It was... more than she could hope for. "Lord Saionji... Your bedroom suited me just fine. But this is more than satisfactory. It is beautiful, and I am deeply honored to stay here." She smiled. "Thank you very much, Lord Saionji. I cannot express how thankful I am to have this room for the duration of my stay."
