    Babysitting [Closed] Empty Babysitting [Closed]

Post by Serenity Sat Jan 21, 2017 5:56 am

Kaminari stood quietly in the doorway of the infirmary entrance and stared off into the courtyard.  Midori Hayashi stood silently behind her for a bit and then stepped up. She set her hands on Kaminari's shoulders and forcibly turned the girl back toward the private rooms. "Come on. I know you hate it here, but I doubt you want him to come back before you're done." Midori said as she pushed the reluctant Kaminari into a private room next to her office. Kaminari wasn't having it. She knew she needed this done, but she hated the hospital. Actually, she hated doctors and they both sort of came with the other. If Midori had come to her, it wouldn't have been much different.

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Kaminari kept her arms crossed and was being slid across the floor since she refused to move her own feet. When they finally made it to the room, Kaminari stumbled over a piece of metal that marked the doorway. She caught barely caught herself on the bed in the exam room and glared back to Midori. "That's not helping anything!" she shouted angrily and moved to a corner. Midori sat down on the doctor's chair and stared dully at Kaminari. "You know I'd never hurt you, ever. Why do you insist on being like this every single time you come in for a checkup?" she asked in frustration, rolling her eyes at her stupidly unwilling patient, "It gets tiring."

"Tiring? You don't have to do anything if you don't want to. Just let me sit in the waiting room." Kaminari pointed back toward the door, but Kaminari was taken by surprise when Midori stood up and grabbed Kaminari's arm. Midori picked her up and sat her on the examination table like a child. Kaminari kicked a bit, but was sat down anyways. "Did you not learn your lesson?!" Midori got in Kaminari's face and asked with more anger, the calm she usually kept vanished, "You were kidnapped a second time after you were being used as a medium for the Arrancar."

Midori let that sit for a few seconds, seeing if she would get any sort of response. When Kaminari only stared at her, she continued. "If you had come sooner, things could have changed and many people might not have gotten hurt. Don't you think it's best to keep up with these things now or are you wanting to try that shit again?" Kaminari's eyes locked onto Midori's for a few seconds before she nodded in defeat. Midori sighed and nodded back, "I know you trust me, so stop being a damn idiot and try to act like a good little girl until Auntie Midori is done babysitting you, okay?" Midori pinched Kaminari's cheek and then pat her head. "STOP THAT!" Kaminari yelled and smacked Midori's hand away.

Midori just smiled at Kaminari and went to grab her clipboard and stethoscope. Kaminari sighed, shook her head, and couldn't help but smile. The two of them had a strange, but fun friendship. Midori began the examination by taking a look at her eyes, ears, and listening to her heart. She made sure to get an ultra sound done and used some of her Kidō to take a more detailed look of her insides. Things did seem to be healing up pretty well and there was no scar tissue. However, evidence of her own Kaidō healing was still present, which was expected. "He's exhausted." Kaminari spoke up as Midori began writing things down. "Well, that's not surprising. He's working and probably hasn't slept much."

"I know, but it's worrying. He needs to sleep and take a break, but there isn't anyone that can help him." Kaminari explained as she stared out the nearby window, thinking deeply on the last few days. Midori looked up from her clipboard and smiled knowingly at Kaminari. When Kaminari saw this out of her peripheral vision, she looked curiously back to Midori. "What?" Kaminari asked. "Oh nothing. One day, you'll finally realize it." Midori giggled and Kaminari just rolled her eyes. "I know what you're talking about and I already did." Midori immediately got excited, "Oh?" "Yeah. It doesn't matter though. I'm not wasting his time and it's not like he would ever see me that way."

"Ugh. You're such a pain." Midori rolled her eyes and ran her hands down her face, "You don't even kno-..." "Midori." Kaminari interrupted her. There was a strong seriousness in her voice, like she was absolutely sure what she said was true, "I've felt it, realized it, and admitted it... That doesn't mean it'll ever go anywhere. If you haven't noticed, I'm nothing more than a burden to him. How many times has he saved me? ... He shouldn't be babysitting me." Midori dull faced and then pinched the bridge of her nose, "Neither should I, but you don't see me giving up on you because of it." "Hey! You're not babysitting me." "What do you call it?" "A doctor's appointment!" "Four days later?" "So what?!"

"Babysitting." Midori quickly brought her hands up above her head to block. Kaminari sat up and slapped at Midori about twenty times in quick succession, like two young girls having a cat fight, but both of them were laughing. "Stop picking on me." Kaminari tugged lightly on a strand of Midori's hair and laid back on the exam bed. Midori just chuckled and continued the examination. It went on in silence for some time before Midori spoke up again. "Kaminari... If you don't want to feel like you're being babysat, then get stronger." she said as kindly as she could, looking concerned at her friend, "You're so concentrated on making friends and being liked that your training has suffered for it."

"I know, I know." Kaminari let out a frustrated groan and hid her face behind her arm. After a few moments of silence, she sat up from the exam table and hopped off. "Are we done?" Kaminari asked and Midori nodded with a small smile. "If you feel anything odd, you come here immediately." she demanded and Kaminari nodded back, "And you can't leave until he comes and gets you. I'd escort you home, but I have a patient I need to look in on." "It's fine. I'll wait in the lobby for him." Kaminari walked out of the exam room and stopped at the doorway, "Thanks Midori."

The last person Kaminari wanted to run into or even expected to run into had just stepped into the waiting room. Midori had went to the back and into her office, trusting Kaminari to sit and wait. She was doing that until she saw red enter her vision. Kaminari froze as if the woman was a t-rex that wouldn't see her if she didn't move. Of course, that didn't work and Lilith looked right in her direction. Kaminari shrank in her seat as Lilith stepped over to her. Without a word, the intimidating Captain just stared down at Kaminari, who was obviously too nervous to say anything at the moment. In fact, Lilith was the one who chose to break the silence and without yelling or insulting her. "You alright?"

That was more welcome than Kaminari really realized in the moment. She nodded quickly and shyly, feeling like a small child about to be punished for doing something wrong. Kaminari couldn't even look Lilith in the eyes. She kept avoiding her gaze, even when Lilith crouched down in front of Kaminari and just stared at her. This had happened last time too; Kaminari just stood there while Lilith stared at her. It was the perfect intimidation tactic to use on Kaminari, especially when her mind wandered and she expected so much more than she got. "Good. Let's go for a walk."

Kaminari prayed that Midori would walk around that corner, but her hopes were dashed when the two walked passed an empty hallway. The woman at the front desk barely paid attention to the situation, having only gotten to her shift a few minutes ago. Lilith and Kaminari walked like friends out of the building and into the maze that was the Seireitei. Lilith kept an arm around the small frightened girl, guiding her along. Suddenly, Lilith's grip on Kaminari tightened and the two vanished. Lilith's shunpo was no way near as smooth as Genpaku's but it worked quite well for her.

Lilith stopped in a small clearing of the Eleventh Division. Kaminari didn't even get a chance to look around and realize that they were in Lilith's backyard. She just stared off with wide eyes, wondering when she was going to get hit, smacked, thrown, or anything like that. Lilith released Kaminari only to grab her by the back of the collar and stand her up on a decorative rock that stood in her garden. It brought Kaminari almost eye level to Lilith, which somehow helped her calm down a bit. Something about not being looked down at by this woman that made things much better.

"So you're healed up? Everything is okay?" Lilith asked and received quiet answers in the forms of nods from Kaminari, "Good." It fell silent again and Kaminari was forced to keep eye contact with Lilith for what felt like half an hour. The two minute stare off ended when Lilith brushed her hair back, sighed, and shook her head. Lilith put her hands on her hips and glared at Kaminari with the anger Kaminari originally expected. "How many times are you going to make him save you?" Now that was the question and the attitude that Kaminari expected from all of this.

"You repeatedly put my son and my daughter in danger for stupid reasons. This time, it was just a doctor's appointment. Are you serious? What did I tell you last time?" Lilith asked and looked to Kaminari for the answer. She thought hard, trying to remember, but the exact words didn't come to mind. "What? You don't remember?" Lilith asked. Kaminari hesitated and then shook her head no, feeling herself shrink even more. A spark of rage shined through her eyes as quickly as lightning strikes ground, but she held that back. She sighed and took a deep breath. "I told you that if it happened again. I'd break you." Lilith let that set in, "You remember or you forget that too?"

"N-No. I remember." Kaminari nodded, her eyes focused on a random flower in the garden. "So do you understand what's going to happen now?" Kaminari's eyes widened. She couldn't imagine what was waiting for her. Well, she could, but she didn't want to. "Your training with Captain K. is over." The name took Kaminari off guard, but she soon realized it's purpose. "From now on, you're training with me. It isn't going to be you working around their schedule. I'm going to give you one to stick to and you're not getting a choice in the matter. You will get stronger and you will not keep fucking up. I'm not allowing this shit to happen again, ever. Do you understand me, Hatakeyama?"

Kaminari stared in shock at Lilith for that moment, a reaction Lilith had not expected and only responded to with a raised eyebrow. Kaminari hopped off the rock and looked back up to Lilith without the normal fear she had when in this woman's presence. "Wait, so... You're saying that you are going to personally train me?" Kaminari asked. Lilith crossed her arms and nodded in response. "Why? I mean, I thought you hated me." "I don't hate you. I think you're stupid and weak, but I don't hate you. You're important to my girl and boy, so you're important to me. If they'll kill and die for you, then so will I. However, I'd rather them not be put in that situation, which is why your training starts now." Kaminari blinked, took a deep breath and then smirked. "Well alright then. This should be fun."

Babysitting [Closed] Empty Re: Babysitting [Closed]

Post by Serenity Sat Jan 21, 2017 12:13 pm

The first shot was not a training shot. It wasn't light or easy. It wasn't weak. It was strong and full of a mother's vengeance. Kaminari didn't expect it. She had no time to prepare herself and there was no warning. Her body was suddenly forced back into a wall. Her small frame slammed into the stone hard enough to knock the air out of her, but luckily not to damage the wall. What felt like a full forced punch to Kaminari was a mere fraction of Lilith's strength. Kaminari stood still for a moment before her body gave way and she slid down the wall. She didn't even breathe. Her mind and body were catching up to the pain. Finally, she took a deep inhale of air, gasping from the pain and curling into the fetal position. She put her arms over her stomach, and though the pain was great, she was doing her best just to breathe. It was proving difficult as more of the pain set in and the muscles in her belly throbbed.

Lilith stood in her original spot and watched happily as Kaminari dealt with the first iteration of pain she'd be feeling. She probably wouldn't do that again, but she needed to get it out of her system. After Kaminari seemed to catch her breath, Lilith made her way over to her fallen trainee and smirked. "Lesson one: dodge." Kaminari struggled to push herself to her feet. Anytime she tried straightening her body, the pain in her stomach prevented her from doing so. It took quite some time, but she got herself to her feet, which seemed to impress Lilith. "Not bad. There aren't many who actually get up from that one, especially those around your level." Lilith chuckled and turned away. She stepped off about ten feet and turned back to the pained Kaminari. "You ready for the next one?" Lilith asked. Kaminari forced herself to straighten again, but it hurt too much. She ended up slouching and she shook her head.

"N-No." she said, practically pleading for Lilith not to do that again. Lilith just scoffed and rolled her eyes. "At least you're honest about it." she said disappointed in her new trainee already, "Too bad. I'm going to walk toward you and when I get there, I'm going to hit you like that again. This time, it will be in your jaw. Got it?" Kaminari wasn't going to answer that since it didn't matter. She watched Lilith walk toward her and her first instinct was to back up. When she hit the wall just a foot behind her, she began to panic. Lilith was getting too close. As Lilith reached her, Kaminari moved out of panic more than anything else. Lilith went to strike her jaw and Kaminari dropped down with her hands over her head. She stumbled to the side as Lilith's fist hit the wall behind her, denting it only slightly. "Ow, ow..." she winced when she felt the muscles in her stomach spasm. "Better than some on your second time around. Another."

"Wait, wait!" Kaminari fell onto her ass and put her hands up in front of her, "L-Look. Can't you teach me how to actually fight first? In comparison to you, I'm pathetically bad when it comes to Hakuda. I-I-I can barely throw a punch. My best skill is in Kidō. I-I only know the very basics of hand-to-hand. Please. I want to learn and get better, I do, but not if your mission is actually to kill me." Lilith contemplated the thought of killing Kaminari, but for more humorous reasons. She'd never actually do that. "What did I tell you? You're important to them, then you're important to me. I'm not going to kill you. However, you're small and scrawny, so maybe you're right." Lilith stood in contemplation for a bit, eyeing Kaminari, "Okay. I'm gonna teach you somethin' pretty cool. Get up, come here. It's something I learned to do before I got as strong as I am." Kaminari got up and went to stand in front of Lilith.

"Alright. I want you to punch me in the stomach as hard as you can and keep doing it in intervals equal to each other." Lilith ordered and Kaminari just stared. She didn't think Lilith was serious and honestly thought this was a trap. "Are you going to punch me back?" Kaminari asked worriedly. Lilith took a deep breath and sighed out of annoyance while staring at her. Kaminari took the hint and made a fist, but was confused about the directions. "So what do you want me to do?" "Punch me and count it out. One, two, three, four, and keep going. Get your timing down and restart your numbers at ten." Kaminari nodded, took a moment to think, and then began. When she did, she only used one hand and Lilith gave her a 'what the fuck' type look. "Use both fists!" she raised her voice, causing Kaminari to jump, "You don't fight with only one arm. Do it." Kaminari nodded and continued. Lilith felt like a marshmallow was being thrown at her while Kaminari felt like she was punching a stone wall. Lilith didn't even budge, her skin didn't even sink in!

Kaminari kept going and going until Lilith stopped her. When she did, Kaminari winced and shook her hand from the pain. Lilith just chuckled at how weak she was. "So you've got your rhythm down. Now I want you to add Kidō into it." Lilith said and got another confused look from Kaminari, "Concentrate your reiryoku into your fist. Now each time you strike, release it in a burst outwards. It'll give you the illusion of high strength while also increasing your ability to damage your enemy." Kaminari immediately understood the concept and smiled. That was brilliant and it impressed the hell out of her. "Okay, but I have a question. Why are you teaching me this over like... normal techniques and stuff." "I have my reasons. Even if you did get good at your technique, the likelihood of you damaging me is extremely low. No offense." "None taken." "With this technique, you have a chance to do a bit of damage. And if you can damage me..."

Kaminari's eyes went wide with excitement. She got it. If she was some how able to damage Lilith, her ability to fight stronger opponents would skyrocket. "No, no. I know what you're thinking. Stop it." Kaminari's thought processes were cut off, "Yeah, you'll be able to hurt people easier, but this is so you actually see your damn progress. You know how many people I train that just cannot hurt me? Blades don't cut, Kidō doesn't burn, and fists don't bruise. People constantly think they're not doing anything because even when they do hit me, it does nothing. If you hit me and at least see me turn my head or my skin gets a little screwed up, you'll see that you've accomplished something. I get why people need to see damage to feel right, but seeing it on me? You'd think they'd learn that fucking lesson." "So you're teaching me this just in case I some how land a hit on you one day?" "Yep." "Weirdest thing ever, but so cool."

Lilith made Kaminari continue with the reiryoku enhanced punches. She tried thirty times, not a single one made a difference. Kaminari kept mistiming it or wasn't using enough reiryoku. There was a time she had none in it. Concentrating reiryoku into a small area was difficult and Kaminari was one of the better people when it came to energy control. There was something about her reiryoku's make-up or the way she needed to distribute it that was throwing her off. Kaminari explained this to Lilith, who shrugged. "I ain't the one you want to talk to about that. Hit up the bimbo or Captain Hayashi for that one." Kaminari confused about who the 'bimbo' was because she had expected it to be Midori. "Nah, Captain Foreplay. I don't know how to pronounce her name. Fifth Division." Lilith shrugged it off as Kaminari realized who was being talked about. Kaminari held back a laugh and Lilith made her continue on.

Kaminari went on with this new way of training. Lilith had originally been standing there like a wall, not really paying attention to Kaminari's attempts. This time, she took a closer look and watched Kaminari's movements and paid attention to when she was releasing he reiryoku. She recognized the problem; it was one another student of hers had a long time ago. As Kaminari began counting again, she waited until Kaminari got to her next ten and suddenly put her hand between Kaminari's fist and her stomach. Kaminari hadn't expected this or even seen it when it happened. The movement was quick, so when her fist hit Lilith's hand, the energy released on impact. She had been releasing it too soon and allowing it to leak beforehand. The energy backfired though and shot up Kaminari's right arm. She was thrown back on her ass, pain shooting up threw the muscles in her lower arm. "Ow, ow, ow..." she whined and hissed.

"Watch when you're releasing and you're letting it leak. Pay attention to that. Now get up and try a-..." Lilith stopped mid-sentence. Kaminari didn't seem to notice since she got up and began dusting herself off. She ignored the pain in her arm and began again, though the punches from her right arm were considerably weaker. "Shit." Lilith said like she had just been busted. Kaminari stopped when she heard Lilith speak and looked up to her. "What's wrong?" she asked and Lilith sighed. "He's on his way. Something tells me you weren't supposed to leave the Fourth until he came and got you." "O-Oh. W-Well, technically no, but it was with you, so I didn't thin-..." "It's fine. I knew. Gives me an excuse to see him." "As if you needed one." Kaminari raised an eyebrow. "Well, before he arrives in the next ten seconds, listen up." Lilith said and leaned down to Kaminari and began speaking very quickly at her, "If he tells us to stop, you're stopping, but now you have something to work on. I'll continue to train on one condition, you stop acting like a child and follow my schedule. I don't know why he cares so much about you, but he does, so I suggest you realize how lucky you are and stop causing problems. Go-..." Lilith stopped mid-sentence again and looked over to Genpaku, "Hi."

Babysitting [Closed] Empty Re: Babysitting [Closed]

Post by Genpaku Tue Jan 24, 2017 5:59 am

To say that this day had become hectic was an understatement of profound proportions.  Genpaku had traveled over a great deal of the Seireitei taking care of various duties and issues.  He'd had a strange and disheartening conflict with one of his Division members.  And once he'd returned to the Fourth Division to pick up Kaminari he'd found her gone.  Now that would have been bad enough on its own, but it turned out she hadn't simply walked off or something.  Oh no; instead, his mother had come in and collected her and no one had thought to stop her.  Granted, stopping Lilith from doing much of anything was not something most people in the Gotei were really up to the task of doing, but it didn't stop it from being frustrating.  The fact Midori hadn't put it together prior to it happening didn't help much either.

Really, it didn't matter.  What had happened had happened; now was the time to play damage control.  So he'd taken off from the Fourth Division headed for the Eleventh.  On his way, something odd happened; he slipped.  He misplaced a step, and banged his shin into the rooftop edge.  It hurt.  Alot.  Luckily, Genpaku caught himself with his hand as he started to drop, and shunpo'd off of it to continue on his way.  It wasn't hard to locate Lilith's energy as he neared the Eleventh Division, and he arrived without fanfare.  Which wasn't to say he arrived unnoticed.  Lilith turned to look at him, greeting him.  He lo oked between Kaminari and Lilith, sizing up the situation in a few moments; he looked over Kaminari, Lilith, the surrounding grounds, and the dented wall.  He let out a breath, and with it some of the tension bled out of him; not much, as there was much generating tension these days, but some.  It could have been worse; Kaminari was at least standing after all.

“Kaminari, would you mind accompanying me back to the Tenth Division?” he asked, and when she agreed he gave a small smile before he turned his gaze back to Lilith.  “Stay.  I'd like to talk to you,” he said simply before he took hold of Kaminari and they vanished.

Back at the Tenth Division Genpaku left Kaminari, stating he'd be back shortly and that she should get something to eat.  He gave her another small smile before he turned and returned to the Eleventh Division.

“I get that you're frustrated with her, but is throwing her into a wall days after she's had her lung cut open really the best way to do...well, anything?” he asked without preamble.  It was telling in many ways; usually Genpaku was much more diplomatic and kind in his words.  There wasn't anger per say in how he said the words; more there was annoyance and a general lack of the usual thoughtful tone that went with his words.

Genpaku's arrival was always welcome, even if he was mad! Lilith put her hands on her hips and kept to herself while the two of them headed off. Genpaku's request was accepted by Kaminari, but not immediately. In fact, she seemed to daze out enough that Lilith had to snap her fingers to get Kaminari to pay attention. When she did, she hurried off with Gen and Lilith decided what to do to 'stay' here. She glanced around, found some shade under a tree, and went to relax under it for the small bit of time that Genpaku would be gone. She set her back against the trunk, crossed one leg over the other, and waited. When he came back, Lilith noticed the small limp he had and raised an eyebrow. She stared at Gen as he came forward and refused to answer for a until she got to ask something.

"Is Kaminari getting fat or something?" she asked bluntly, patting the ground next to her so he'd sit in the shade, "Your leg. You've obviously hurt it. What happened? She too heavy now?" No matter the answer, Lilith was just poking fun, mostly at Kaminari's expense. She chuckled a bit and then sighed. "I didn't punch her too hard; she might have a bruise at the most..." Lilith looked away from him a bit guilty, "And kinda forgot about the damn lung thing... Shit, that could have been bad." Lilith was honest when she mentioned forgetting about it, but it didn't bother her much. "Besides, she needs to get her ass kicked into gear. I ain't gonna kill her, just make her move."

At Lilith's response Genpaku was brought up short for a moment.
“W-what?” he asked before she'd clarified. He wasn't surprised she'd picked out the slight limp.
“Oh, no. Slipped on my way over,” he commented like it wasn't a big deal. After a moment he opted to take seat next to Lilith.
“You definition of 'not very hard' is rather different than most,” he pointed out. “And not everyone is pleasantly surprised when they get a bruise,” he continued, poking a small bit of fun at Lilith.

“You're right; she does need to move. However, I think she's had quite enough of her ass getting kicked lately. Until she puts her mind to it, no amount of prompting is going to move her to do it. You know how hard it is to get a body training when the mind doesn't want to move,”

He slipped? "I hit her half as hard as I hit most people I train, so it really wasn't that hard. I'm sort of learning my own strength." Lilith motioned toward the wall, "Barely damaged it, not even much of a dent and no cracks. Usually it's... well, a lot worse." Lilith was trying to get some sort of faith from Gen, but wasn't sure how to do it. He understood her feelings toward that munchkin, but it didn't mean that she'd actually try to hurt her.

At the same time, he slipped.

"I only hit her once! I swear, and then she made this point about teaching her to actually fight... Which brings me to two points I need to figure out..." Lilith turned to face him crossing her legs and slouching over a bit, "Why the hell doesn't she know how to use Hakuda? The girl barely knows the basics, did you even realize that? Her punch was pathetic. I was sitting there, letting her punch me and had to tell her to use both hands. Who doesn't know that?!" Lilith facepalmed and shook her head, embarrassed for Kaminari.

Before he got to speak, "And for my second point... You slipped? What do you mean you slipped? You don't slip."

Genpaku gave a sigh, and mentally told himself to step back a moment. Rash Lilith might be, but she had a good enough handle on her strength that you could count on one hand the number of trainees she'd sent to the infirmary on accident; she'd never killed someone accidentally that he knew of. Or maybe he was underestimating Kaminari's ability to take a hit.
“Fair enough. Sorry, just a long couple days,” he commented as Lilith asked her questions.

“When she's trained, she's been secretive about it. Alternatively, she's branched out and sought training from other people when she has. If its as bad as you say though, I'll have to figure out something to do about it,” he commented. If someone in his Division was having problems with basics, he was certainly doing something wrong. He'd thought he'd covered most of it, but it was entirely possible she'd not paid attention.

His attention was grabbed when Lilith spoke her second question.

“Misplaced a foot as I was making my way over; cracked my shin into one of the tile roofs on the way over. Supposed the Commander will end up fining me for damage,” he said as though it wasn't much of a deal.

Lilith was surprised that someone like Kaminari was 'secretive' about her training. In fact, that didn't make sense. Lilith had witnessed the complete opposite herself. Kaminari practically bragged about training with Captain K to Midori and herself. "Doesn't sound right. Kaminari isn't secretive and that's something you should know. Why the hell would she keep that from you? She didn't have a problem bragging about it to other people, or did you just forget? She had been training with the younger of the Saionji brothers in Hohō. I've heard she's not horrid at that."

Lilith sighed and looked worriedly at him. She reached out and lightly pat his back, leaving her hand there for a moment. "You okay? And don't say you're just tired. You don't show it when it's just that and you also look like your mind has been tested." she asked with more of a worried tone than anything else. This was one of the sides of Lilith that most didn't see. She was genuinely concerned in the manner a mother would be and the compassionate look in her eyes showed it. "Something's bothering you, so come on. Spill it and maybe it's I can help with."

Lilith let there be a short moment of silence so he could answer when she realized something. "Hey." she looked seriously at him and poked his cheek, "Don't be all vague and shit either. Neither of us need to be playin' games right now. Not in the mood for that, so be honest about whatever the hell is actually on your mind. No... go."

Truth be told, Genpaku hadn't thought much about Kaminari's training. Generally, Shinigami proved to be somewhat reclusive about their training and abilities and Genpaku had been no exception. The fact he didn't know how Kaminari had been training hadn't stood out to him until it was pointed out in this instance. However, he didn't have the answer for that at the moment.

Besides, Lilith turned the conversation away for the time being. He looked back at her with exactly what she'd told him not to say already on the tip of his tongue. She looked worried, and that combined with her words made him reconsider. She pressed about it, and he kept silent for a few moments as he considered.

“A lot of it is just stress. The Tenth has already started getting hit pretty hard. Hollows aren't just going after souls; they're coming after Shinigami in coordinated packs. A few reports have come in of them trying to take prisoners. Its been hectic since Kei is mostly still getting her head back together and my third seat has just finished putting a transfer request in for the Sixth Division.”

    “On top of that,”
he started, but paused as he considered. “Less than an hour ago I had a...I wouldn't call it a fight since I didn't really have much to say. My Fifth Seat, Yukina Togami, seems to be rather stressed about her best friend leaving the Division.” He outlined the conversation with Yukina, and he didn't bother to leave out any of the details.

Yeah, Lilith had gotten to know him well enough. She wasn't going to allow the beating around the bush thing. She preferred it straight forward anyway. However, what she got wasn't expected. Well, she expected the stuff about the Tenth getting hit hard, but the information about Nina was... not surprising. She may not have expected that in particular, but it wasn't surprising. Her son was adorable. When he finished explaining everything she actually had to clench her jaw to not smile. She fought it and fought it, but it ended up coming anyway.

"Y-You a-har so, sw-eet..." she said through her laughs, trying to stop them. She reached out and pulled Gen into a hug and even snuggled him a bit. "And dense by the way. Most men are, but you almost take it to another level. You don't notice when any woman takes an interest in you. You know how many have joined my squad to get close to me, just to get close to you? Or how many have even tried to get Kaminari to ask you if you like them? Love her way of dealing with it; she tells them 'of course' and then leads them to me. We actually had a good month where we kind of bonded over that. Nina obviously has a crush on you, Kaminari does love you, and by the right of a Mother, I say neither are good enough for you. No one has been, and knowing what I know of them... They won't meet standards."

Lilith pulled him into a one armed hug and kissed his forehead. What she had been saying wasn't going to help, or give him any advice. "Look. Right now, you're extremely tired and stressed out. You don't need this shit on your mind, but because of that jealous pink haired child, you have it. The only advice I can really give you is to see where your heart goes. Romance isn't something on your mind, but it has a habit of finding you..." Lilith chuckled a bit, "Trust me I know. Besides, you shouldn't be alone forever. You deserve someone to come home to when a hard mission is done. A girlfriend might make your days more worth it. Just... choose who or whatever is right for you."

He raised an eyebrow at her reaction, turning to see her breaking out into laughter before he was suddenly pulled into a hug.  Maybe he was quick enough to have evaded, any maybe he could have fought out.  Or maybe he was tired.  Or, maybe he didn't want to.  Who is to say?  Lilith spoke her piece, and he remained silent as she spoke.  He looked questioningly at her several times, but didn't bother to voice most of the thoughts that came to his mind as she laid out these apparent facts.  When she switched to a one armed hug and kissed his forehead though he did fight back a little, pushing her back and wiping at his forehead with the back of his hand and shooting her a look; after all, such a reaction was expected here.  She had a little more to say, and he quieted down as she finished.

He kept silent after she finished as he ran some of what he'd just been told through his head.  Unfortunately, not everything was connecting in his brain quite right; likely a drawback of too little sleep and too much caffeine.

“One way or another, you're exactly right that this wasn't what I needed right now,” he said at length, and let out a huff.  He had enough running around that his personal life didn't need to be getting any louder than it already was.  It also didn't change something else that Lilith had said; he had these problems now.  Denial wasn't going to make them go away.
“And I'll deal with the lot of it later.  A war is not a good time to try and start a romance,” he said.  “I don't have the time to be focusing on it anyway.”  That said, knowing Genpaku's mind, it was going to likely be on his mind anyway.

Genpaku reacted like any adult son would when their overly loving mother treated them like they were still a child. Even if Lilith wouldn't mind getting a hug back, it was a happy little event she could remember. Genpaku rarely came to her with stuff on his mind; he was very independent. It felt like a privilege for him to actually talk to her like this. She had always wanted a son and now she had one, whether he liked it or not.

"Yeah. I'm sorry it came up the way it did. she replied with a light nod, looking off into the distance as he continued. He ended up making her chuckle again. They both knew he wasn't going to not think about it. "It is going to be on your mind every time you look at her and you know it." Lilith said and then perked up a bit, "I'll tell you what. I can't truly help with all of this... 'matters of the heart' stuff, so why don't you let me lighten the load for your Division? You know how I run mine; I don't do shit, so I have the copious amounts time. I can take over for a couple of days and you get some sleep, rest, and some time to think. I'll bring you all the new information at the end of each day, so you know you're not missing out on anything; anything important I'll rush to you. I'll keep your Division training, paperwork flowing, and if I need help I've got Setsuna and Midori. What do ya' say? Think you can rely on me a bit?"

Genpaku wanted to refuse right off the bat, a reflexive gesture. At times, Genpaku felt a great deal pressure to prove himself; understandable given the fact that he was possibly the youngest Captain to ever hold the position and held high standards for himself.

    Then again, he was tired.

To say this had been one of the most hectic and nerve wracking weeks Genpaku had experienced in his time as a Captain would be entirely accurate. It was likely that things weren't going to slow down any time soon as well what with the war and all. That wasn't even taking into consideration the concerns with his personal life at the moment. All of this was certainly wearing on him. If he didn't do something to give himself a break he was likely to break himself before any of the real action of war took place. So he stopped himself from answering and actually considered the offer. Much of the Division's training had stopped while the problems in the World of the Living were being sorted out. He'd have to get together the information to give to Lilith so she'd understand all of what was going on.

“It'd be smart of me to accept that help,” he said after a pause. He let out a breath. “Yeah, that'd be a good idea. Thanks. I'll get together some kind of small action-report so you have a good overview of all that's going on.”

Lilith couldn't remember a time where she succeeded in helping Gen or Kei. She would be there to support them any day of their lives, but lately she had been late. It was pissing her off and making her realize a few things. One of them was that she couldn't catch this speedy brat even if she wanted to. The other was that she was failing them as the Mother figure she really wanted to be. This was her chance to change that, at least a bit. When he accepted, Lilith was joyful, but also relieved. He could rely on her for this and trusted her with it; that meant something big for her, especially since she didn't think it'd ever happen again. "Sounds good." she said with nod and then stood.

"I'm going to walk you home. The fact that you slipped says you might need the help. Besides, I want you to go sleep, not have that ball of energy talking your ear off for the next three hours before you finally collapse." Lilith held her hand out to help him up, "Come on. Let's get you home. While we head back, anything you need done today?"

He looked up at her when she stood and offered her hand. He scowled lightly at her comment though.
“I'll be fine. And its not like I'm going to crash out right away anyway. I need to write up the action report and I'm going to have to calm out some of my own nerves before I can get anywhere near sleep,” he said. He took her hand all the same and stood up.

“Yeah, there are a few things left to do. Largest among them; the Tenth Division has been granted custody of the fugitive Ichinose Yua effective pending transfer of custody. The Captain Commander ceded custody earlier today. That makes her my problem. Since I have enough going on though, I'm putting her case on the back burner and confining her to Tenth Division grounds, which special permissions if she is being escorted by a ranking member of the Division above Third Seat,” he explained as they started walking, laying it out in the necessary language so that it would make sense and not get him in trouble down the line.
“I had planned on passing the briefing, such as it is, to Kei when I returned Miss Ichinose to Tenth Division grounds but I suppose you can handle that. Something tells me no one involved will much mind,” he commented.
“Otherwise, its just a lot of logistics in keeping the various squads in the Division rotating and covering their areas.”

Lilith was initially surprised about the Tenth gaining custody of Yua, but was also pretty impressed he could pull that off. She took in the bit of information that he had given her. Once he was home, that would be the first thing she did. Upon Yua's 'release', Kei will be happy as well. "You've been doing this all on your own? I'm impressed. Your Division isn't in the best of shape right now; you're handling it better than any of the other Captains would." Lilith's compliment was sincere. As they walked, Lilith thought a bit, her hand under her chin as she stared at the ground.

"Over the next few weeks, I'm going to push Kaminari more than she's ever been pushed. I know you won't like it and neither will she, but I'm going to train her until she breaks." Lilith said in a more formal manner. She wasn't speaking as his Mother in this moment, but a fellow Captain and peer. "After this incident, I'm not gonna allow her training to slack again. It's annoying to say that she's one of the few I trust to have your back. Since Kei is... distracted, Kaminari's unfortunately the only real choice to climb in your ranks. She's practically a baby when it comes to combat skill, so I'd rather someone else take the spot, but..." Lilith sighed and shook her head

"Seems there is no other suitable choice within your Division. Pity."

Genpaku gave a small smile, and muttered a word of thanks at Lilith's compliment. He didn't say much more on it though.

Afterall, he thought he should have been doing more.

The conversation took a shift however as they walked; he caught the change in tone as soon as Lilith started speaking. He looked askance at her as she spoke, taking in her words. He looked forward again as she drew her words to a close.

“She's distracted, and dealing with her own mountain of personal demons. For all that, she's got potential,” he said simply. Lilith scoffed at his comment, and he looked back at her again.
“You're right to think she is weak; she is. She folds to mental pressure quickly, and her physical skills require work. However, her skills lay more in Kidō than physical currently. She's neglected her training, but that doesn't change the fact that the potential is there.”

"Tch... I see very little beyond loyalty in that one, and even sometimes that can come into question. Not because of any recent events... Lilith caught what she said and waved that thought off before he dared comment, "Kaminari wants to be friends with everyone. She has said so many times before. Being friends with everyone has it's perks, but doesn't exactly show much loyalty toward any one person. If two of her friends were in a fight, who would she help? I know she could easily stay out of it, but there are some cases that you shouldn't. The girl needs someone that she puts above everyone else. It helps one stay grounded, focused, and can keep some demons away." There seemed to be a moment of self reflection here as Lilith spoke more from experience and wisdom than anything.

"Anyways... Until she stops acting like... like... her. She's not going to really change unless she's pushed beyond her limits. She is going to stay weak, like she has since she arrived in this place. It's a pathetic way to live, especially if you're repeatedly being saved by those around you. She deserves to get her ass kicked if she's not going to try."

Genpaku was kept from responding right away when Lilith continued, and she certainly had a point.  However, as she continued his eyes narrowed.
“Its not always as straightforward as that,” he commented.
“As straight-forward as what? There isn't much else there to give her an excuse for it."
“"Its not her fault she couldn't resist something even a Captain succumbed too," he pointed out.”
Lilith sighed, "That's not everything.  I am also talking of your rescuing her from someone that was supposed to be on her level.  The Twelfth Division member?  She couldn't even fight him and ended up in an emotional mess.  How do you not hold your own against someone who is not only your same rank, but not even a combatant?  He's from the Twelfth!  Not the Second, Fifth, Tenth, or Eleventh. The Twelfth!  As for the thing inside of her... Even I can wrap that up as a stupid mistake.  I don't know why she's so damn stubborn with her doctor's appointments, but I don't like going there either.  That I can accept... a bit.  If I didn't, I'd of killed her by now for what happened to Kei.”
“From what I know, he broke her mind before attacking her body. Not everyone's reaction is to break the enemy before them when they deliver trauma," he pointed out without a hint of accusation.
“So she's weak mentally and physically, huh? You'd think she'd try to exercise at least one of them.” Lilith chuckled at her insult, though she tried making it come off like a joke.

He looked at her a moment, coming to a stop until she did likewise.

“You don't get it...” he said, though it seemed more like he was talking to himself.  He was in a sense, as he reasoned out something in a matter of moments.  Lilith was someone that could be moved by words, and who almost always saw logic in the long term.  But short-term, words were not the way to make Lilith see something; action was.  And for some things, action was the only way for her to see something.  His actions may have consequences, but this was something that Lilith needed to see; should have seen long ago.

When exactly he took the step is a matter of speculation; one moment he was a few feet away from her, the next he had closed the distance, reached up, and snatched the eye patch off her head.  In almost the same motion, he'd slid back to just at her arm's reach.  With the absence of the patch, Lilith's power suddenly crashed down on the area.  He stood there, face carefully blank.

“Hey!  Give that back,” she snapped, reaching out to take the eye patch back with a quick motion.  Genpaku slid once more out of her reach, just by an inch or so.  She narrowed her eyes, he looked back unblinking.  She went for it again, and he stepped away again.  It might have seemed like a petulant action of someone mad about their friend being badmouthed; it wasn't.

When she didn't go for it again, he spoke.

“How often has this happened to you Lilith?  How many times, in your life, have you put in a situation determined by physical ability where you came up short?” he asked, his tone neither cruel nor accusatory yet solid as bedrock.
“I've heard the stories about you Lilith.  You're a force to be reckoned with, considered one of the strongest Shinigami to have lived and in the running for strongest living.  You are a legend in your own time; people want to be you, or like you.  In all your time here, you've never been someone who lacked power.  There might have been times when you didn't have enough power, but never a time when you lacked power entire.  You've never been powerless, been weak by a practical standard.  That isn't the norm, Lilith,” he said, and after a moment he handed the eye patch back to her.

“Kaminari is weak.  She lacks the strength to stand up to the kinds of forces that have come for her.  I saw those Arrancar move; I would have had to work to keep up with one of them.  Now imagine for a moment that someone as fast as me and strong as you, compared to Kaminari, is coming for you.  Has it in mind to take you from your home and carry you off into the darkness.  That, at the end of the day, if he found you there wasn't a candle's chance in a blizzard you could do a damn thing to stop it.  Now imagine that they don't even have to be that strong; that they can snap their fingers and your body would just do it.  For some, that knowledge would be a driving force to push them forward.  Those are rare few; those are us, Lilith.  For most people, that thought would be enough to nail their feet to the floor and freeze their hearts,” he said.

“Kaminari needs training, and she needs to focus; you aren't wrong.  But it is not her fault she was not blessed or cursed, you decide, with power from the beginning.  Sometimes you get power out the gate, and sometimes you have to work for it.  Rarely do we get a choice in which one it is.”

Post by Serenity Fri Jan 27, 2017 9:45 am

The moment he snatched her eye patch from her face wasn't easily seen. Lilith was not slow, but in comparison to Genpaku, there was no way for her to keep up with him. Never in her life had someone had the balls to do something that she would honestly call disrespectful. Insults were normal, fighting was normal, snatching that eye patch though? To most people, that was a death sentence. Lilith reached out once to try and snatch it back, but he kept it out of her reach. She tried once more and failed to retrieve it again. She stopped and stood still, staring intensely at him and the anger that accompanied was not being held back. In this moment, Lilith was actually pissed.

The silence that followed allowed Gen to speak his mind. Not only did he speak in defense of his friend, but he was trying to teach Lilith a lesson she obviously needed to learn. As he went to give the eye patch back, she held it in her hand, becoming distracted by her thoughts. He knew her well enough to understand how to teach it, so about half-way into his speech the anger that rose from what she once felt to be disrespect faded. Her expression softened as she thought on his words, herself, and Kaminari. He was right about her never being in that situation. At least, she couldn't remember ever being in one. She could always at least hold her own. Kaminari was the exact opposite, never being able to hold her own. Taking into mind the people that were after Kaminari put things into perspective.

When he finished, Lilith glanced down to the eye patch and took the time to put it back on. Her power was pulled in and greatly lessened, the people around very grateful for that. "I will not be training Kaminari." Lilith said as if she had admitted defeat, "I do not know how to. If I do, I will hurt her. She is not the type of person I can train because you are right, I've never been in that situation. I don't understand it, and I don't control my frustration enough for someone like her..." Lilith stepped up and put a hand on Genpaku's shoulder, "But she needs someone to train her, to push her. Being free to do as she wants is why she is in this predicament. You obviously understand her more than I can. Stop allowing her to be lazy and push her ass into gear. Then maybe she'll confess her love."

Lilith chuckled, trying to forcibly lighten the mood. She had to do something to pick on him, but ended up sighing and nodding to him. "Thanks. I never thought of it that way. Those in my squad are completely different, Kei's different, and even you're different. I actually don't think I've dealt with someone like her before. It's... frustrating." Lilith took a deep breath and pointed her thumb back toward the Tenth Division Grounds, "Come on. Let's get you home. I'm still gonna need those reports you insist on writing up and you need to sleep. Sooner we get this done, the better. Also, I'ma ask Kaminari if she'll go on a date with you. Whatcha think? Or should I ask Yukina?"

He watched the changes in Lilith's facial expression as his words made it clear. She replaced the eye patch and stated she'd not be training Kaminari, which made him frown slightly.
“I think it would be a good idea for her to train some with you actually; however, she may need to wait until she has more of the basics down,” he commented. Lilith told him to stop letting Kaminari slack off, and at this point he ceded that she had a point; her fundamentals were apparently in horrible condition. He rolled his eyes at her last comment, but didn't bother to try and refute it. He didn't feel he had the energy. Lilith moved on to lightening the mood a little. She made a motion to start heading back, and he turned to head off in that direction.

However, when he took that step something was off. The world seemed strangely bright for a few moments, and it sounded like he was in some kind of wind tunnel. He started to agree, that Lilith needed the reports. The words didn't come out right though. That was when the world started to tilt sideways. The edges of his vision suddenly, violently, turned to black and rushed forward.

Simply put, the stress and rate at which Genpaku had been going had finally caught up to him. Little sleep, lots of stress both physical and mental, and a spotty diet over the last four days had taken their toll. His constant use of long distance travel, while it had certainly allowed him to accomplish a great deal, had aggravated all of that. Then there was the last thing; subjecting himself at point blank range to Lilith's unchecked power. Sure, she hadn't been exerting it but then again, he hadn't been taking care of himself the last four days. Or the week before that, what with the concerns he'd had about things going to hell. The solace that he'd been right about it was bitter medicine. He was unconscious before he'd have hit the ground.

The words that came from Genpaku caught her attention. More because they weren't really words, but sounds and mumbles that made her worry immediately. She glanced over her shoulder just in time to see him falling forward and made a quick turn on her heel. In a small leap, she landed next to him with her arm around. He fell into her arm and she quickly turned him around to check on him. He was asleep. Well, he had obviously fainted, but she wouldn't call it that. Lilith chuckled, smiled, and looked around for a quick moment. No one was around, good. You'd think she'd do something embarrassing here, but no. She merely lifted him up and vanished from sight with a quick shunpo. She even focused more to make the ride smoother and quieter, unlike her regular way of traveling.

Lilith brought Genpaku home, making her way in without knocking, and found Kaminari sitting at the dining table reading something. Kaminari looked up confused and went into her worrying state immediately, but Lilith calmed her with a small "Shh." Lilith took Genpaku to his room and laid him down. She took off his haori and shoes before covering him up and then leaving him be. As she left his room, she closed the door behind her and looked to Kaminari. "Did he actually wear himself out?" Kaminari asked with obvious concern over the extremely rare event. "He did. He's dealt with a lot recently, even more than you could understand." Lilith sighed and put a hand on Kaminari's shoulder, "I need you to watch over him, Kaminari. Let him sleep as long as he can and if he wakes, tell him I will take care of his Division. Do you have some paper? I need to leave him a note." "Oh, yeah. Of course."

Once given the piece of paper, Lilith wrote up a short note. The note read,

    "Gen,

I'm leaving Kaminari to take care of you. I've given her specific orders if you choose to leave this apartment. Do not make me send every Captain I can to restrain you. Rest. I promise, I'll take care of everything and you will get reports at 9:00pm every night. Until then, have fun getting to know your possible wife. Good luck.

    ~Lilith
P.S. If she read this, I regret nothing."

Lilith folded the note up and narrowed her eyes at it. She glanced to Kaminari, who was standing silent this entire time. "Here." Lilith handed the note to her, "I trust you to give it to him the moment he wakes up. And when he does, cook him a good meal. I've heard you've gotten into that recently." Kaminari nodded, took the note, and slid it into her shihakusho pocket, "I have and I will. You can count on me!" Lilith fought a condescending chuckle in that moment and nodded, patting Kaminari on the head as she walked out. "Oh, right..." she stopped at the door, "I won't be training you. I've given you a technique to work on, that is it. If you have questions about it, you can ask Gen and finally stop avoiding the idea of training with him. He's gonna judge you less than anyone else, ya know." "H-How di-..." "Oh please. Anyone who knows you can see how much his opinion matters to you. The only way for you to get better is to train with him, so stop being an idiot and do it." With that, Lilith left and quickly closed the door behind her, leaving a thoughtful Kaminari behind to glance to the folded note in her pocket.

When Lilith left, Kaminari stood stuck on her own thoughts for a while. It took her a while to begin moving again and when she did, the first thing she did was take out the note. She was curious about what was written, but as she opened it up, something in her gut told her to close it again. She slid it back into her pocket and went to make herself a drink.

Through the hours that Genpaku slept, Kaminari made a snack, read, drank some hot cocoa and worried. She checked on him multiple times, making sure he was covered up and putting a fresh glass of water next to his bed. He never seemed to wake up and drink it, so she just replaced full glasses each time. The late hours came and Kaminari found herself curled up asleep on the couch with a half-drank cup of hot cocoa sitting on the end table.
